This is a volunteer that lived two years. I am on the Cumberland Plateau and in 52 years have never seen any thing like it. It was white the first year and purple the second, What is it?

All, thanks for the help. After Allnitro mentioned it could be a Paul's Glory. I searched the forum and found some postings on the similarities. So I guess it is a possiblitity. Paul, the Paradigm picture you posted here is exactly what mine looks like. This hosta's bloom is very light lavender. So maybe this is another indication that it could be a Paradigm?

They are by far the most common butterfly around me. I usually see them flying up in the trees, but occasionally they come closer to the ground. My brother did his PhD in entomology studying the Eastern Tiger. I went butterfly collecting with him one summer in Northern Michigan. We came across a group of about 15 males, all on the ground "puddling" in some moist sand. My brother was able to drop his net over the whole batch. Fun work. martha

It appears to be a type of campanula, reminds me of Canterbury Bells (Campanula Medium).
