flowering native shrubs

I am curious what the experience of others has been regarding how long it takes elderberry, viburnum, and dogwood shrubs to start blooming. This is the second season for some sambucus canadensis (american elderberry), cornus amomum (silky dogwood), cornus stolonifera (red osier dogwood), and viburnum trilobum (American cranberry bush)that I planted in part shade.

They were small (12-18") bareroot plants when I planted them.

So far the elderberry is about 6' and the others are 3-4' tall but it does not look like any will bloom this season.

Am I being impatient, or does this reflect a problem? I am growing concerned that the locations I chose are too shady for these plants.

Your thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.
