My sister has this beautiful flower growing along the entrance to the wooded area of her property. My dig camera is broken, so I couldnt get a pic. She thought it was Lady slippers. The flowers are orange, and do look just like Lady slippers, but are only maybe 1in tall. The thing is, I've only seen Lady slippers grow w/ 1 or 2 flower heads on a single stalk, like most "flowers"-stalk then flower. Her's are more bush like, or a shrub. They stand 2-4ft tall, many thin branches off, small leaves, and small lady slipper flowers. Any idea what this could be??

Sounds like it could be jewelweed (Impatiens capensis).

thanks for the replies, it isn't the Brazilian pepper.The berries are the right size and color, but the groupings of them are smaller and spaced out over the plant more. The plant was near Avenue B, it's a RV park.I wish I'd payed better attention, there may be more than 1 avenue B on the island, I remember a brown sign ( pretty big) and a closed business ( restaraunt maybe?) where you turn in to go to the RV place. There are also homes in the area. The closed business may have been brown too, you turn off the main road and you go down a short stretch of road parallel to the main road before you turn to go where my friends RV is. She is in Pa too so she can't help your FIL find it. If he's from there he probably will find it, also it's only a few minutes from the Win dixie, the one diagonal from a pet store. If your pulling out from Win dixie you go left. Okay my friend called and I asked her and she said it is off route 1 and it's Castaway RV park. The plant is on Avenue B or near it. I took a walk up and down Ave B and the road near it crossways sort of like a + sign.The berries should still be on the plant cause those I took are still fresh looking. There are no flowers on the plant, just leaves and berries.I appreciate this, thank you. If they are invasives by chance I am back home in Pa and they are gonna be house plants if they like container life and won't like our outdoor winters.

It's a shame they're planted as a two ft. sheared hedge. They get much taller, even the dwarf variety. I have one about 10 ft. tall that needs to be in more sun. I'll move it soon. I have to second the good description. Way, way, better than most. The best I've seen in quite awhile. Mike

well, the horns were definitely more like the head of the lark, but you are right I would have noticed the specific markings of a mature male. Horned larks are not really in our area except rarely in the winter. Streaked larks are around but I have never seen one. Probably more likely would be juvenile house finch since I have oodles of finches. thanks

Nice photo taken from a site just a couple of miles from where I live, but the internet home is about a thousand miles from here. (Technology is so interesting!) Someone else posted a beautiful photo on GW about a week ago. I would love to get the yellow one, I. palida, started here but have not had any luck scattering those mt. seeds.
