wildflower, perennial, or weed?

These two plants are growing like crazy around my pond. The one with the 3 leaf group is about 6 to 8 in. high, seems to be getting ready to bloom (view white thingies) and spreading like crazy. The other plant is about 18" tall and I haven't seen any blooms. Can anyone help identify these for me? Wildflowers, perennials, or weeds?

The second picture looks like virginia creeper.

The first picture looks like an avens (Geum). If I'm right, it will have small white or yellow flowers with five petals. These are not showy plants, but they are native wildflowers.

The second plant looks like an astilbe. I think I see buds on some of the plants, which will turn into fluffy clusters of flowers in white, pink, red, or lavender. Astilbes are non-native perennials.

Actually I started seeds in pots, and then I transplanted seedlings to the ground. However, somehow the original Dianthus Shrimp was choked by this plant instead. I have never had ANY luck for growing cilantro (4 or 5 times). Even the mature cilantro I bought died. Thus, when Noinwi suspects it to be cilantro. I was surprised but happy, and I actually dared enough to eat one leave...It does taste like cilantro though. Italian parsley does not even taste like close family to cilantro. Although I do sometimes reuse the soil for pots, I don't reuse it for the ground plant, and I use the peat pellet seed starter. If the plant is indeed cilantro, I really have no idea how the seed got into the spot on the ground.

I'd suggest removing them individually with shovel or spade. Would also consider posting to a list like Craigslist offering them free for the digging. Glad you don't want to use chemicals!

When weeds are still delicate, easily damaged sprouts, you can scuffle them with a rake or hoe to kill them. The notion of a patch of wildflowers with no undesirable plants invading is a lovely, romantic one, but pure folly. Whether you have expensive store-bought cultivars, or a from-seed bed of wildflowers, there will be unwanted sprouts. A wildflower mix can be very difficult to use if you don't recognize the sprouts of the plants listed on the package (so you're able to pull any other sprouts that show up.) It's also unlikely that the same timing and conditions will cause all types of seeds in a mix to sprout. Extremely rare is the report of success with all plants listed on a wildflower seed pack. Buying a few packs of seeds that I know will grow well in the conditions I have, (sowing them at the time prescribed on the package,) and using patches of them instead of mixing seeds & scattering more randomly, has been much more rewarding for me, in the realm of growing from seed.

I can't tell from the link to white avens if thats the first plant. not enough of the leaf shows on the picture to compare it. I'll look at some other databases maybe to see if there's a better leaf pix. I thought the second plant might be an astilbe - the leaves are so similar to my large astilbes, but these are so much shorter. I'll have to research and see if there's a low growing or creeping one. thanks for the help. oh and I think I might have figured out the pix thing - so here's another!

That is a beautiful spot you have there! Iagree that the second picture looks like astilbe.

First pix is definitely not white avens. found some other pix and wasn't anything like it. But I'm pretty sure the second is astilbe.

Those leaves look a lot like my rose-of-sharon leaves but shinier. Could it be some kind of hibiscus or mallow?

The first plant could be Cryptotaenia canadensis.

Think this could be Cryptotaenia canadesis - I'm not sure but I'm going to wait and see if it develops a fruit per my field guide to wildflowers. Thanks for all of your help!
