place to plant Blue Flag Irisis

Three years ago I dug up some BLue Flag Irisis from a low, wet part of our property and transplanted them to by our house. I put them in a shady area as they were surrounded by trees in their natural setting. Since then they have bloomed and spread a little but this year did not bloom much. I am re-setting perrenials now and wonder where a good place would be for them. Perhaps they need more sun? But they were in a very wet area in the wild. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

They may be ready to be divided. If you have a dampish spot, it might be better.

For plants that require wet or very damp soil, I create a "mini bog", by burying something that retains water, such as a plastic garbage can lid, a shallow plastic storage container, an aluminum roaster pan and where a larger area was required, a child's shallow play pool, made of fiberglass. All were placed so that the top rim was below ground level and slightly tilted for drainage.
If more acidity is required, milled sphagnum peat moss can be combined with the backfilled soil.

You might want to consider Black Gamecock Iris and Sinfonetta. They are both lovely purple Louisiana irises that will compliment your lovely Pseudacorus. I found both at Lowes in Baton Rouge. Lowes gets their irises from Hines Nursery in Texas. The local iris farms are fairly expensive. I have native Giant Blue Flag Louisiana iris also growing in my yard. It is a popular trade item at plant swaps and is more aggressive than Psuedacorus in Louisiana.

It's the weather. It was a real poor iris year. I don't even see any scapes on my Japanese. Hope they don't skip a year. Versicolors are at the height of bloom here right now. My wild versicolors I couldn't even get to because of all the water until yesterday. Still can't get to most. They have a lot of blooms but I do see a lot of rotted buds too. I am going to have a bumper crop of garden toads this year. Have tadpoles swimming around in places I've never seen water stay before. Little guys are just getting all legs and venturing into the air.

We live on a large lake year round and fly both a US flag and an Earth flag at all times. We also have a rainbow flag, the Jolly Rodger, several state flags and Tibetian prayer flags that are flown at various times, depending on the weather and my ambition level. Despite being a progressive, leftie super liberal who holds disgust and hate in my heart for many of the US elected officials, I believe in the US and believe we as a nation could (and should) do much better in terms of how we treat the rest of the world, women, LGBTQ persons, minorities, the poor, immigrants and prisoners (to name a few), I keep going back to what my late father always said "Our system is flawed, but it's the best there is, and only the laziness of our citizens will cause it to fail". Personally I think a few more Scandanavian principles would be in order, but overall, I have to agree with him, take marriage equality, which only a few years ago seemed far from our grasp, now is the law of the land. And that's why I fly the flag.

Blue Flag (Iris versicolour) requires full to part sun and wet, sandy, well drained soil. It may be found at woodland edges but will be on the sunny side of the woods. If not blooming, likely not enough sun.
