Hi All,

Please have a look and let me know what you think. These are all from the Klamath and Siskiyou Mountain areas in Southern OR. To narrow a guess down, you can use the OR native plant atlas: http://cladonia.nacse.org/platlas/jclass/OPAJava20.htm

Hello Ross,
the topmost is Silene
the bottommost looks like a Sedum.
Since these are NW plants you may want to try the
University of British Columbia forums
as they have a very active Identification forum and will probably be able to id to exact species! I am in CA so all I can do is guess. I do love Castilleja and really would love to learn more about the second Pink Castilleja. I have not seen pink in any of the Castillejas that I have seen.
Pink is a color often associated with Orthorcarpus but your plant is woody looking while Orthocarpus is herbaceous.
So check the UCB forums and post some or all of your images there!

Teasel is pretty rampant at my place and I have no doubt that is teasel in the picture. Revisit the plants later in the summer after a rain to see the leaves, which form a cup around the stem, filled with water. FataMorgana

It looks like Erigeron to me too. I checked the species listed for that area. The ones with similar stature were aphanactis, bloomer, chrysopsidis, eatonii, poliospermus, and pumilus. Your photos do show flowers, but I can't tell if the ligules are going to be yellow, or something else. If you keep showing us such interesting plants, I may have to move to the area ;).

Your extension office is spot on. The holes are definitely from sapsuckers which open up the probability for Sequoia mouth. The tree is Shore pine (Pinus contorta) which is extremely susceptible to both. Being native trees, they do not want summer water. They are evolved to tolerate our summer drought. It's normal. I don't think sycamore will work in southern Oregon; it has totally different climate preferences. Look around. Oregon white oak (Quercus garryana) performs magnificently there and in time will become a huge majestic tree.

I have lived in Southern Oregon for a very long time and have had many gardens over the years and helped with many. I have spent every penny I have buying 10 acres of my own and will have 1 full acre fences in the next 3 weeks and would love any and all advice it's been 15+ years since I've been apart of something this big let alone doing it on my own with the only help of my 8 year old and 13 year old. My husband touches a plant and it dies so I try to keep him to weeding only lol. I'm going through my seeds now to see what I have left but I also really want to try some trees around my garden and bee healthy everything. Please share your thoughts and wisdom and have patience as I am also recovering from 3 major spine surgeries something most people do in a day takes me 2 or 3.
