Can You Help Me ID These Hosta?

I recently purchased these hosta at a local nursery for $5 a piece. They are in five gallon pots. The individual at the nursery thought he might know them and gave me some names but he wasn't sure.

Hosta 1 --- Twilight?

Hosta 2 --- Regal Splendor?

Hosta 3 --- Sum and Substance?

I would appreciated any help identifying them. Also, please look at the brown spots on the underneath of Hosta 3. What could be the cause of these? They had quite a bit of exposure to the sun according to the employee. Thanks.

Well, I think 'Regal Splendor' and 'Sum and Substance' is right--but 'Twilight', I'm not real positive, on that i.d.!
My 'Twilight' is a much darker green and right now is more cream margined, which will intensify and lighten contrast,
in time, yet!

Could it possibly be 'Wide Brim'? They all look like they are just beginning to unfurl--maybe once they are completely
opened up, we'll have a better idea of them ALL!! :o)

My large-leaf recommendation is Lakeside San Kao, looks like nothing else... starts lime, turns near-white with green veining. See the photolinks I left on another thread here (three in one note, one in another).

Thanks Phil for taking the time to post pics!!!! It really helped! Ok, so I feel much better that you guys agree it is June along with me. I had thought it was June all along, but thought the inside of the leaf might be too greenish and not enough yellow. Not like it is a life or death situation, but when you pay so much for a named hosta, it is so frustrating when you lose the label. I usually make a map on a piece of graft paper with my hosta names as a back up, but for some reason, I never wrote this one down. LOL! While I am here, I was curious, do you guys ever do any hosta trading? I am mostly on the seed and veggie forums. I did not known if hosta trades were done more on the hosta forum or the plant exchange forum. But I would love to share some of my hostas with others. I just started collecting a few years ago. It is quite addicting. Especially after I got my Encyclopedia of Hostas by Grenell and Shadrack. Anyway, thanks for the help! I really appreciate it! Christy

Don~ Opal and Trevi Fountain aren't hostas. I don't think hostas normally have spots. I was wondering if they were pulmonaria, but Chris pointed out that the mystery plant has waxy leaves. He thinks arum or asarum. Ed thinks it's ligularia. ~Bunnycat (ps, love all of your lists)

Hi Ken, You are right - they really are getting too much sun right now, but they are planted below some trees that should be filling in soon and providing shade. The park is in Western Massachusetts. What I mostly like is the size of the leaves. I actually prefer a variegation rather than a plain color leaf. Right now I have a good sized Sum & Substance, and some Earth Angels that are helping fill in spaces nicely, but I'd love some more dramatic ones, so please, blow my socks off! :) Thanks!

The man at the nursery actually gave me two names for Hosta 1, Twilight and Wide Brim. I went to Dave's Garden and read about both hosta. It states that Wide Brim has 9 to 11 vein pairs per leaf, Twilight fewer than 9. If I am counting correctly, Hosta 1 has 6 vein pairs and so I thought Twilight instead of Wide Brim.

I am feeling very happy with the purchase. My friend who very rarely buy plants even ran into town to get herself some. She was able to get Hosta 2 and 3, so I will share some of Hosta 1 with her. Now I need to get my hosta bed all finished and get them out of the pots. I also bought four wonderful hosta from the diggindutchman (hostabargins) on eBay. They are so beautiful.

I think the vein count only applies to a mature leaf--again--I think!
Either way, you have wonderful hosta at a tremendous price! Congratulations!!!
Enjoy them---I know you will!

I did some more reading and you are right. Vein count only applies to mature plants. So, Twilight or Wide Brim? I am happy with either one. I also bought some daylilies for $3. I guess when they bloom I will be on the daylily forum trying to figure out what they are. I just hope they are not ditch lilies. I have enough of them. Thanks for all of your help.
