Looks like a mock orange, or Philadelphus. There are some introduced species but if yours typically has the single flower like that it could be one of our native ones (P. inodorus or P. hirsutus)

The ones i looked up under P.inodorus and hirsutus have smooth leaves,but the flowrs are very similar. The ones here have very rough saw tooth leaves. does that help determine whether it is native or not? Would they grow just as well in the sun or better as under the trees?

I believe this is jetbead - a non-native invasive plant.

Yes that is it for sure. its not invasive here. at least not yet. only a few scattered through the woods.

im in sw Pa,in the Pittsburgh area. iv only seen a few in the woods around my house and no place else so far.

I look to the US Dept. of Agriculture to find out whether something is invasive. According to the site, this plant is introduced but not considered invasive.

Yes it doesnt seem to be invasive at all here. Iv had one in my woodland garden for years, its still not very big, it flowers every year and goes to seed but i still only have the one.

Invasive is not necessarily defined by how it behaves in your yard. Birds can carry the seeds away and deposit them elsewhere.
