More delicious plants, as always from you Paul. I just have to tear myself away from this forum...right now I am over-stimulated by all these beautiful plants that they'll be jumping around my head and I'll never get any sleep. I oohed and ahhhed at Coll's posting, then Idiothe stepped in, then you did.....i just cant take all this in, in such a short timespan! Be back tomorrow to ogle some more! These are great stories. Love reading them. I'm not even sure I am a "hostaholic", although, I suspect maybe I am because I'm constantly on this forum and the Hosta Library and have lists of ones I want. I only have around 100 varieties, though. Does that make me a "hostaholic"? I've actually always loved hosta. I remember when I was a kid my grandparents had the "plain green ones" lining their front yard and us kids would go around and "pop" all the flowers before they opened. It was great fun. I didn't have the proper property to plant them until I moved into our present home. I bought a few varieties and started planting them under the maples in the back yard (yes, you know it---where the grass wouldn't grow) about maybe 5-6 years ago. When they stopped increasing after a year or so, I got on the internet to find out what I was doing wrong and that's when I found this forum and what I might be able to do about it and the rest is history. Now I have five beds on the property because I, also, found out that they are actually shade "tolerant" not shade "loving". So, here I am........a "maybe" hostaholic. You know you are a hostaholic when you discipline your four year old son, and he gets mad and says "mommy, if you don't do what I want, I am going to take the tags off your hosta's so you won't know their names.". .... And for a moment you feel fear in your heart, until you proudly think that you have their locations memorized enough that you could figure it out. That same four year old knows the name of several of your favorite hostas, and tells you what they want. "Pandora's box doesn't like this spot, he wants to be moved over there.". ... And you seriously consider moving it so he might get into hostas just like you. When you go to hosta plant sales partially so you can find and talk to other hosta nuts who won't look at you like you are insane when you talk about your hosta.... And then If you get a little sad or frustrated when you figure out you know way more about hosta than they do... And if you can't believe that they have this beautiful hosta, but never bothered to try to ID it. If you seriously consider trying to ID other people's hostas through this forum. When you are giving a tour of your garden and referring to this hosta as "she" and another one as "he" and your friend laughs at you says "how do you know if it's a boy or girl?" and you say, "I'm not sure.... I guess I just get a vibe, you know?" When for you, one of the most depressing aspects of covid is that you JUST joined the american hosta society and mn hosta society this year and now all the meetings are postponed or cancelled.
