cultivated plants escape

Does anyone know how cultivated plants 'escape' into the wild becoming a nusiance? I understand winged euonomous (burning bush) is a real problem in the NE US woodlands. It's been used in landscaping for so long - was it just a matter of time? Will it happen across the US and we should all rip it out before it becomes a problem or is there some specific mechanism this plant (or generally) uses to proliferate in the wild? I've never seen seedlings next to the mature plants so find it hard to believe it would be succesful at becoming invasive here.
