I have 3 Dracs, the 2 from this discussion, and a corn plant that WM had on clearance this spring. I knew there was nothing wrong with it, it just wanted to get out of WM. It's grown a lot this summer, too. I think the big one making new tops out of the branches is about 35 years old. Nobody remembers when it joined the family. Is the Aglao/Dieff planted in the same soil as your marginata? Are you asking about the Philodendron? If so, yes, those 2 plants have been companions in the same pot for around 10 years. I cut pieces of it off all the time to keep the mass at a manageable level. It's really cool the way the philo has roots about 2 feet long that grow all the way down to the dirt. This summer the philo has started making leaves 3 times as big as they used to be. I've read how they go into adult phase upon reaching the top of a tree but didn't think this little tree would be enough of a climb for it. I don't allow it to get much higher than the point where all of the branches start breaking from the main trunk, and keep weaving it around the trunks and back down to the soil. Maybe a factor as important as height is security/bracing. It's got a good grip on the tree in several places. I feel like I'm in the tropics when I look at that pot. That philo came from my Uncle's funeral about 15 years ago, and has had a hard-knock life also. It came in a wicker basket planter with plastic liner from florist and although I knew better, I never did anything about making a drain hole or repotting it. About 5 years later, I had the basket hanging on a shady hook in the yard and the wicker broke (decomposed?) from filling up with rain water while I was away and I found the plant in a heap on the ground the next day. I discarded the roots and put several cuttings in water, gave a few away, and put one in the pot of the Drac tree hoping it would hide the soil. It started doing that right away and the cuttings in water did great and even got moved 800 miles but then got neglected and dried out. So you could say this tree saved the philo's life. At this point, I'm not sure which plant is supporting which. Like me, both of them seem to really like being transplanted to the south and drinking sweet tea.

OK, technically, I probably shouldn't have used the term "native" since, at the time of writing, I didn't know. I simply meant, not intentionally purchased, sown, growing wild (I don't much care for the term "weed") possibly in the same way Dames Rocket, Garlic Mustard, Ground Elder, etc., etc. now grow here "naturally" though they were brought here hundreds (..or thousands?) of years ago. You got a hit with the Ajuga. We do have it with leaves of varying shades in certain areas of the yard and earlier in the year, do have similar blue flowers. Also, when I saw "Bugleweed" I remember I came to that same conclusion several years ago but apparently forgot. I'll look into it further but at this point, I'm glad to see that, at least some varieties, are both edible and medicinal. Pilea pumila (L.) A. Gray, Canadian Clearweed I've read about this plant before (and, surprisingly, that some presumably mistake it for Nettles?) but never made the connection. I wouldn't really consider my stems "clear" or translucent but, yep, in every other way Pilea pumila it is. Thanks!! I'm still not sure if I'd agree with either suggestion for #3. I should have included something to show scale as this is generally, a fairly common leaf shape. From the tip of the leaf to where it joins the petiole, the leaves shown measure 4 to about 7". It kind of reminds me of some sort of melon. I'll have to remember to pay more attention to the bloom and apparently as important, when it blooms. Thanks all

I'm not judging them all. Just the morons who brought over the invasives lol. :) But I still think that they should be more concerned for their natives, but same can be said for the people here too. I am of European decent. We have only been out of the last dark age for like 50 years. About the time we realized we were killing ourselves with all the pollution and eviromental repercussions. Their are native plant lovers in all those countries who are fighting their own battles. So it's pretty much the same everywhere. We have a member who lives in Sumatra and grows plants. It upsets her to see all the jungles plowed and drained for oil palms, but what can 1 person do by themselves. It comes down to teaching the children for the next generation!

I am as well Marguerite, 2 different names ago, in the Spring of 2001. Astonishing isn't it?! Do you grow these too? When you made your comment about them being on rocks in the wild, I did a search & it mentioned on MOIST rocks, so I'm keeping them on the pebbles & trying to water a bit more often. I didn't know abt these Stolon things, can't wait to see what develops there ;>)
