identifying a wildflower

My daughter has recently moved into a house where the huge backyard was overgrown - they've cleaned it up as far as to the edge where there used to be a branch that is now overrun with plants and trees. We found a really interesting flower there and would really like to know what it is. They did mistakenly mow down a few patches that had come up in the yard. It grows from what looks an awful lot like a patch of wild onions but doesn't have the smell. The flowers are small, snow white, six petals that form a star. There is a second, very tiny s-pointed star in the middle. Any ideas?
