identifying perennial wildflower?

Last May, a very interesting plant popped up in my sunny garden in southern Ontario (Zone 5-6). It has appeared again this year. It is quite charming. The main part of the plant is 12" or so, the flower stems are another 12" above the leaves.

Each leaf is about 4" wide by 2 1/2" tall. Each leaf has 7 lobes (each lobe is three parts with deeply scalloped edges). The main veins bisect each lobe. The veins radiate. The underside of the leaf shows raised light green veins. The stems are hairy; the leaf is lightly fuzzed. It almost has the feel of a pelargonium (geranium). The leaf has a dark purple imprint on the green which echoes the shape of the leaf.

The 5 petal flower is dark purple, about 4/8 to 5/8 diameter. The pistils and stamens are purple, with the pistils extending 3/8 inch. The petals are reflexed when older. The little flower looks like something one would embroider in dark purple.

I can't figure out how to upload images quite yet, so I hope my description is sufficient.

It would be great to know what this plant is. Thank you.
