This is why I grow roses. The beetles much prefer rose blossoms to hosta leaves. So as long as you have plenty of roses, they leave your hostas alone. At least that's how it is in my little part of the planet.

I only have one rose,a wild one and it bloomed weeks ago. How does one get roses and hosta both? Lucky you, I have little sun.

What does an Asian Beetle look like? I have Japanese Beetles--irridescent black/brown that also love roses and Virginia Creeper (the grape family). But they don't go after my Hosta so far. This beetle is a refugee from warmer climes so we've only had it seriously for 5 or so years. When i lived in Cleveland in the 1960's we had that menance all over the place, and it finally found me here in MN. Mary

I may have the name wrong. They look like lady bugs but more orange than red I can't tell the difference unless they are side by side, they have been here causing trouble for maybe five years. This is the first year I noticed the damage to plants. Maybe it is something else but there are holes everywhere! Weeds, Hosta, impatiens..you name it. Trees not so much.

Sounds more like JB damage, AB are pesty & pinch my skin but don't damage the plants here.
