Grasses - spreading or reseeding...or both?

I have one grass (Bottlebrush - Elymus hystrix/Hystrix patula) and one sedge (Carex pensylvanica) growing in my so-far sparsely planted yard. I have started to notice grasslike plants sprouting many feet away from the grasses I planted, that look very similar. But I also remember that last year I had lots of path rush (not sure of scientific name), which I think is actually a non-native sedge (could be wrong). So that could look like the Carex pensylvanica. The bottlebrush grass is pretty distinctive, and I'm seeing something similar sprouting up at some distance from the ones I planted.

The question: Do these plants spread outward

from the original plant, or do they reseed all over the place or both?

Any information would be appreciated.
