My oh my! Finally a sport? S&S doing something!!

Okay--I'm trying to remain calm. I've never really had a sport that can hold for more than a couple of years,

and this is an ill-advised new pot of S&S! Ill-advised because I really do know better than buy a new S&S given

the reputation for them being virused, but I got it at our local nursery for less than $10! Just grabbed a pot of

the most eyes I could find--I know--greedy!!

But, I've had it for several weeks and went out to water it today, and all of a sudden, I realized

that I was looking at *S&S with a creamy margin*!! The color of the plant is very 'yellow' but the margins

defined and definitely creamy white!

My other S&S's are not in direct sunlight, for very long, so the 'yellow' may be normal for them in more

sun--like this one gets in the afternoon, but NONE of my other S&S's have the margin!! I have 'Parhelion',

but the substance and coloring is different than this one.

Could it be----I'm on my way to having a 'Winter Snow'?

If so, it's really funny cause I JUST ORDERED ONE from Naylors!! LOL

I know it's hard to see that there really is a defined margin in the following pix, but trust me, there is!!

Looks like my Parhelion,which is a sum and substance sport.

Quote from the hosta library,"Here's another sport of H. 'Sum and Substance', this one has good vigor and nice form. I'm glad for you,Janice,but frankly,it looks like a young Parhelion,to me. Mine looked that way,when it was young,also. But congrats,on what ever it may turn out to be! Phil

Don't give up! I can tell you our 4 Sambucus shrubs really took off this year after being planted 3 years ago. They are finally stunning and thriving! We were really considering giving up on them if they looked as ratty at the end of this season as they did for the last couple. I'm really stunned and wish I had a before/after pic because it really is something. By the way... No fertilizer - no nothing other than it's "natural" environment and some minimal pruning/shaping.

Maybe rabbits? However, I had that happen this spring to 3 of my big hostas, and all were within 6-12" of a chipmunk hole. Normally they don't eat hostas, but we had extreme drought in April, and I wondered if they ate the unfurling hostas to get some water. I put out several shallow plastic dishes (microwave dishes from the recycle bin)with water in them. That halted the damage, and finally the rain has started this month.

Still can't find that article but I did find inspiration photos for you. Several of them show banquettes with angled corners and round or oval tables that I think would work well in your space. I have to echo what rhome said. We're not trying to be harsh but we do see errors in your plan that we think you'll regret and, as someone already pointed out, you did ask for feedback. Had to come have another looksee. I love how you take the time to grind each piece to perfection. A true artisan for sure! There was a mannequin I saw recently that had a tattoo on it's back shoulder. Very cool, but I can't remember who the artist was. The flesh-colored glass will look great-- I think it will add that extra dimension we love for our mosaics. I found a picture of Laurel Skye's mannequin -- got a twofer: a little tattoo and the flesh-colored glass. Love the grout color she used (linked below). Nancy Here is a link that might be useful:

My understanding is that Winter Snow is the stabilized margined sport from the streaky S&S Blizzard, so it doesn't actually come directly from S&S and this would have to be something different...

In any case, its fun to watch a sport like this to see how it develops...

I think you're all very right! It does look VERY familiar in this young stage, since I already
have a 'Parhelion' and do recall the similarity! I think I have a pic. of it as a 'baby'!!

Yep--that's it!! Well--I love 'Parhelion' so having two will be great, especially with one
in the back and now one in the front bed!! I think it will complement the HUGE S&S I have in a
barrel not far from where this 'sport' is planted!

Keep an eye on it Janice. Last year I bought a S&S somewhat that one and this year this is what it came back as.. .
