I have had about 3 different brands but in my opinion, EON Industries makes the best. They're more heavy duty, the standards are stronger, and the coating doesnt come off like other brands.

I will never order a different brand unless EON quits making them!

i really don't want to see a post from another addict a few years down the line.. saying.. i wish it wrote down the names ... i wish i made the right labels ... i wish i made the garden maps. .. lol ... TRUST ME.. i never stops.. short of a small suburban lot.. and even then.. you can sell the undulatas.. and make room for 25 more.. ROTF .....

I saw the most amazing ones at the convention - Lark Labels out of Wichita. They make them for arboretums, etc. I need to start with 100. That comes to $749.00. If everyone sends me a dollar I can maybe get a start on this.

I get the labels from Ptouchdirect.com. and make them in my Brother P-Touch 1280 labeler. Here's a link for the label...at the bottom of my post.
The labeler didn't cost that much, about $36 thru Amazon.com. It's the cost of the labels ($10 for 26 ft.) that can run up $$ in a hurry. I get the TZ-231 1/2' tapes because they are UV-resistant and laminated, otherwise they would fall apart and also fade. You can also get the TZ labels in other colors/backgrounds. Many on the hosta forum prefer the dark letters on clear labels; my over 50 eyes prefer the white background so I can better read them at a distance. I'm told by people on the forum that they've had these labels for 10 years and they really hold up.

I also use Eonindustries and buy far more than I ever think I'll need. So far, in 5 years, I've ordered over 300 twice. Ironically, I also reuse.

I don't use a PTouch, because despite the tape being UV resistant, they've failed on me. I bought an old fashioned, kid's embosser thing. You know, those guns with the wheel you turn to choose the letter? Well, the tape might fade, but the embossing never does. Those babies don't come off, either. Since I reuse, I have to scrape them off with the sharp edge of scissors.

Oh - another tip: Say you have a hosta, June, that you're labeling. You would think you'd type a label that says just that: Hosta 'June' right?

Well, if you type a label that says Hosta, then another than says June (variety), if you reuse the marker, you only have to get the variety name off of it.

Eonindustries is female-owned. They have a great, sturdy product. Don't waste your time with those marking pens, though. They all fade of wear away. Even the paint pen.

A friend told me once to label both sides of the markers, for just these reasons. Now I use the back side to put HxW or exposure, or whatever particular to that plant. If I'm moving something, I don't need to come in and look it's particulars up.

Labeling has become an informative art for me. [LOL]
