Just got home from the fall swap with my wagon-load of new stuff for the garden!

It was really great to meet the folks I hadn't met before and visit with old friends.

I am totally in awe of Helen's gorgeous gardens and her lovely home. Thanks again Helen for hosting another fun, successful swap!

Yes- Thank you very much Helen for welcoming us into your home and gardens! You have an amazing place there- thank you for sharing it with us- and for hosting this years MN GW Forum Fall Swap.
My thanks also to all who came and brought your great plants, your friends and their great plants too! I will look forward to seeing my selections grow and bloom and spread so I can share them on.
I am still stuffed from the great foods brought and shared as well-

Thank you so much for hosting! You are a great host with great gardens and a great home! Thank you every one for the great food and great plants. I had a very good time visiting with you and enjoying Helen's garden. What a beautiful neat place! It is fun to learn about new plants and remedies such as planting chrysanthemum to discourage mosquitos and killing creeping charlies with borax.

Thanks Windeaux, so it is. I had done a search on Vintage and came up with nothing, but just now found it by going down the list. It's listed under "Hybrid Teas - Custom Root". Thank you also for linking the thread on the discussion of "St. Helena Cemetery Very Double HT". I was going to say that it answers my original question, that is IF "Arcadia Louisiana Tea" is the same rose. Evidently Vintage doesn't think they are the same as he still lists both roses separately. Also describes their bush sizes as different. However, "Arcadia Louisiana Tea" is certainly close to the rose I have, especially if you allow for differences in climate. Plus roses can 'morph', so to speak. For instance, the Prairie Sunrise I got from Sam Kedem years ago has many more petals and tends to quarter where the specimen from Chamblees does not. All in all I'm very glad to get this much information. Thank you all so much! hey thunderbolt is an IMPROVED GE ... it will probably die.. but the peeps who have success tend to be up your way ... lots of bright light for this one... otherwise.. you have some old classics .. some new.. a nice selection .... but do understand.. size is more about leaf size.. rather than clump size ... the clump can get large.. and cover ground.. even on what you might call medium ones ... i have .. one of my favs.. a 15 year old clump of tiny tears.. that is about 8 inches round .. i wouldnt be surprised that there werent 50 crowns in there ..... you might put that in the mini category .... in fact a lot of what you have marked as large .. i would tend to call med-large .... like ERC .... i would move krossa regal more toward the large group.. rather than giant .... because of its vase shape ... since it holds it leaves upright.. it doest cover as much space as some giants who tend to umbrella them in a large circle .. ken

If you have cats, or know someone who has, save some of your Valerian before you throw it on the compost heap. It is an organic sedative for cats and people alike. Think you are going to have a hard time getting to sleep some night? Brew up some valerian-mint-camomille tea. (Valerian by itself does not taste bad, it just tastes blandly musty.) It doesn't make you woosey to the point where you shouldn't handle sharp objects, but it definitely takes the edge off. Anyone who has to transport a cat or bathe a cat NEEDS a baggie of valerian. Fed in some wet food about a half hour before you want it to take effect will make everything go so much easier. My BooBoo has never had a day in his life that wasn't a bad hair day. He has to be bathed at least twice a year. Once he inadvertently left my face blood-streaked before we were finished with his bath. His displeasure is still obvious, but he doesn't turn into a mindless, furry Cuisinart anymore. So, if you don't want it for yourself, share it with the cat owners you know. And keep just a tad for yourself for those potentially sleepless nights. Carmellia

Frances, Just to reiterate, and add a few new ideas. Pope JP II black spots and has serious winter die back without protection here, just like all hybrid teas I know of do here, other than the Kordes ADR hybrid teas. When I did my extensive research on PJP II, I determined that it is a warm climate rose, and does better grafted in my zone rather than on its own roots. Every one around here is disappointed with its performance grown own root. Iceberg is fragrant here. To my nose, being in the autumn of its life, it scores a 6.5 out of 10, better than the frequently heard term 'moderately fragrant,' by a few notches. Iceberg has the same disease resistance and winter hardiness here as the common, garden variety of hybrid tea, very little. It also has gangly, one this way, one that day growth; the flowers nod. It looks best in a bed with several other Icebergs, at least two bushes deep and as long as you want. Here are some more whites to consider: Milwaukee's Calatrava. It's a Bill Radler rose, but not in the Knockout family, so its winter hardiness and disease resistance may be questionable. Its too new in my garden to tell yet. Bolero. Its a Meilland rose. Again, I have not had it long enough to know its characteristics yet. These two are powerfully fragrant and as white as you can get. I suspect spraying and winter protection are needed here (I spray religiously), for optimal enjoyment here. There's hardly a fragrant rose that is winter hardy and disease resistant, especially a white rose. Moses

It was a fun day from the beginnig toast, to the garden, until we all headed for home with our new treasures. Thank you for the lovely day, sharing your beautiful gardens and home with us. Thanks to eveyone who brought a part of their garden to share. I was able to get most everything planted this afternoon except for the pussy willow. I apologize but I can't remember who brought it and I can't remember where would be the best location for
it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for a wonderful, educational day.

My thanks to Helen for hosting and to all attending for sharing your garden plants.

Cheryl, I brought the pussy willows. My bush was here when we moved in and is on the north side of the house. I keep it pruned to about 5 feet so it doesn't block the office window view of the birdfeeders.

I also had a great time at the swap. The fact that I got to watch much of the first half of the Gopher's football game at your house (Helen) prior to the swap, made the event even more fun. I wait with anticipation for both the spring and fall GW swaps, and am never let down . . . it was a good time . .
