I just had to share the following note I just got from my DH.

"We have a stash of ca. 25 empty plastic water gallon jugs here from our coffee water. Would you like me to bring them home for your gardening ventures?

Some husbands bring home flowers and chocolates. I bring home cardboard boxes and empty plastic bottles for my love. Aren't you the lucky one?"

Oh, and I reminded him that he also brings home coffee grounds from the office for my compost.

Mine once gave me, for an anniversary, 12 bags of oak leaves he'd secretly raked up at our cabin. I thought this was truly romantic! For 30 years, he has usually known what I really want!

Phenixk- Can't believe I came across your post. We are considering using Dorado(now Phildadelpia) Soapstone for a soapstone countertop and were wondering if it was a good choice. There is another company in the area that also sounds good, but as you said, Joe and Andy have been great to talk with so far. I am still trying to decide what to do-soapstone (?) or not, and would love to see a countertop that has been used in someone's home to see if it holds up as well as they say it does. How long have you had yours? Are you pleased with the wear, etc.? Also, I really like the idea of the lighter gray color, but I am not sure if it would stay that way (without oiling it) like they say, and look good. Our other option is to use 12 x 12 retified porcelian tiles. I want a primitive country look since I have a house full of antiques.

I heard about it on our local birding email list. The homeowner was very generous in letting people come over and see it. For many people it was a life bird. They're usually hard to see because of their small size and because they aren't often seen out in the open. So it was fun to get this opportunity very close to home. Now if only it would fly a few miles to my house so I could get a cool new yard bird!

What an adventure! You'll have to tell the bride and groom the story, so they will have a first memory to go with it (especially the part about finding the fabric in the store that you'd run out of!!). I also totally understand. I always underestimate myself on times. It's a lot like a construction project, add 30% for time and budget!

12 Bags of oak leaves
11 Bottled waters
10 Yards of Bird netting
9 Bushel baskets
8 Garden Catalogs
7 Water buckets
6 Bails of peat moss

5 DRIED COW PIES

4 Garden hoses
3 Water breakers
2 yards of compost
And a squash hanging in a pear tree
(the Far North Forum readers will get that one)
(and hey, it makes more sense than 10 Leaping lords!)

Pauline- I bet your spouse is the envy of every husband in the office. Most probably have to give gifts of the expensive kind!

TM is always bringing me 'treasures' from the woods. Among other things, I have a plentiful supply of various old stumps and logs with hollow centers...all have a lot of 'character' and are put into service as planters. These treasures sure beat the tractor tire he got me for my birthday!

Rick - clever, clever. But...as they say, don't quit your day job yet! LOL

Isn't it nice to have someone that knows us well enough to gie us what we really want. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for farmpost for our anniversary.

I am definitely jealous. The only thing I got was grounded this summer.
Whilst clearing yon buckthorn patch- I caught my toe on barbwire and biffed it big right in front of DH. I came up spitting dirt and got plunked down on a stump and told that I was "banned from buckthorn". Now I'll have to wait until next year when the memory fades.
