Please help ID a seed

I recently received a packet of 'wildflower' seeds from a swap. I dont know who contributed the seed so I cant ask them to ID it. There were a variety of seeds including:

**One seed looked a bit like a small acorn without its 'cap'. Dull grey/brown

**The seed that really has me interested is:

over an inch long and over half an inch wide,

flat, thin oblong,

milky white,

smooth with a fuzzy grey edge

I'm very intrigued by what this might be.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I took this seed to the local lawn and garden show. It was shown to anyone and everyone and not a single person could identify it. Lots of interest in it but no answers. Its an awesome looking seed, bet it will grow something nifty.
Anyone here have an answer ??

Looks like an acorn from one of the live oaks to me, hard to tell which species exactly. One or two isn't a big danger, but they are toxic in quantity. From a pet site: ++++++++ The primary toxins found in the (acorn) plant material are tannins and phenols. These compounds attack proteins they come in contact with possibly causing ulcers and bleeding of the mouth lining, the esophagus, and the intestines. This may be demonstrated by bloody or dark diarrhea. Additionally, the toxins are converted in the digestive tract where they may enter the blood stream causing hepatic (liver) and renal (kidney) damage and in extreme cases failure. The symptoms are usually delayed, in some cases a week after ingestion. These signs may include depression, constipation or diarrhea (both accompanied by blood), abdominal pain, rough coat, a period of frequent urination followed by no urination. The lethal dose for dogs is not known, for cattle it is approximately 6% of the animal's body weight. If you have a 40 pound dog, that's almost 2Â½ pounds of acorns. However the literature does not state how long a period of time this quantity could be consumed over and still be lethal. As a precaution, keep all areas available to your dog free of acorns and downed oak vegetation. Be especially vigilant after periods of extreme wind or strong storms when there may be more plant material on the ground.

I don't know what it is, but maybe you could plant them in a small pot and see what grows. Hopefully it isn't some sort of "Little Shop of Horrors" plant. LOL!

Looking at your photo more closely, I believe your naked-ladies are amaryllis belladonna rather than the lycoris which I usually associate with the name. If this is so the seeds will be more of a flat papery disc shape though also ready as the pod browns. In this case check out the amaryllis forum here for seed starting as it is a bit more involved. George

Since you first posted your picture on "Name that Plant," the white one has struck me as a squash seed. There are ones that do have an "edge" to them. (See link.) But I really wasn't sure. You can compare and see what you think.

Nancy - I've been watching this thread because I was curious to see what kind of seed it was. FataMorgana may be right or at least very close. Hope you have room to plant it and see what happens. Be sure to harvest seeds so you can trade them.

Thanks FataMorgana. Thats the closest picture to the seed I have. When looking at the pictures, the silver edge appears shiny to me. Is that how it looks to you? On the seed I have, the edge is fuzy. Not sure if I'm just not seeing the photo correctly.
I was very excited to at least see a seed that looked very simular. This has become a curiosity to me. I do plan to grow it and see what we'll get. And yes Christy, I'll collect seeds and will be glad to share :)
If it is the silver edge squash, the seeds are apparently wonderful as well as the flesh.
Keeping my fingers crossed. Will update as I have more info.
