Fall Swap-- Date & Location?

With fall coming on quickly, I'd like to bring back the discussion of a fall swap. Was there a consensus earlier on a date and location?

Janet, based on the previous thread, are you still going to host? If not, we can do the regular place for the Fall Swap (Black Hills Regional Park).

Could everyone please vote for one of the following days? October 9, 10, 16, or 17. I will compile the votes and post the majority winner.

I vote for either the 9th or 10th. I'm good for either Saturday or Sunday.

My choice would be

a) October 16 then b) October 10

OK. Here, I think, are the directions for the shortest way to Beaver Pavilion. I trust someone will correct me if I get it wrong. Get off of I-65 at exit 246 where the Oak Mountain Park sign is, but don't follow the rest of the signs and the directions on the website. Those will take you to the main gate which is a long winding way from the pavilion. From the North (Birmingham), go LEFT (East) on 119. From the South (Montgomery), turn RIGHT. Stay on 119. You'll pass Indian Springs School and go several miles until you get to Oak Mountain Lake Road aka Park Road on your right. I don't remember if there's a park sign there, but that road will take you into the park through the back gate, which is close to the pavilion. The person at the gate can give you directions from there. My cell phone number is 256-442-3291 in case you get lost. ;-)

going to be loading my car as well soon, just in case we get some rain - I would like everything to be in there, I have other things I did not mention before - plants that is, that I am bringing too- sure there will be people there who are just starting- and I started doing clippings and now have way too many of some things out here.

I'm going to try my best to make the fall swap. I missed the Spring one. We've had one bad thing after another happen to us since March. I haven't had the chance to work in my flowerbeds or plant anything at all. I have seeds, different size planters and planters made especially for rooting cuttings and will try to come up with other things that might be of interest for trades. Would any of you know someone that could help me with this? My neighbor gave me a commercial greenhouse last summer. We don't know how to put it together or where to even start on it or what other parts it may need besides the cover for it. This is what I know about it. It has metal poles/ribs. I know it's at least 32 feet wide and can be made into any length I want. When my neighbors had it up a few yrs ago. It made two commercial greenhouses end to end. It had 2- 4ftx4ft fans in it which she also gave me, I can't ask my neighbor about it she died a couple of months after giving it to me and her husband as since moved. I don't want it as big as my neighbor had it I just want a decent size greenhouse that will hold one of the fans ( the other fan we have other plans for that). Is there anyone that lives close to me (I live in Waller, Texas) that would like to make some extra cash $500.00 that could come and put this thing together for me? I'll buy all the materials that you would need to put it together. You would not have to do any plumbing or electrical work. Pam, I'm sorry you don't have your swapping zeal up! I hope you recover it before October 22; I 'specially bought the chalk stick plants with you (as well as me!) in mind. The Ft Worth Swap has been at Trinity Park for many years, with the exceptions of a couple of years during which I couldn't work up my own zeal & nobody else took over & a couple of times when we moved the location for one reason or another, & it just didn't work. When someone has been generous enough to rent a pavilion, at this park or at one of the Arlington parks, we've (I've) asked people to "chip in", & the amounts paid just don't add up to anything approaching a pro-rata share of the cost. Most of the other swaps charge a fee for participation, so that everybody understands, before they come to the swap, what their fair share is. We can do that if that's what everyone wants; we can have a dialogue on this thread, or we can talk about it at the swap, so that we're prepared for the spring swap.

Either the 9th or the 10th is fine with me.

I'm worried that I may not have much to trade this year, but I'll come and hang out and bring the big cooler of mint tea.

PS - I got a greenhouse!!! 4 feet square. Free! Mel's setting it up in the backyard right now. I'll bring pictures. (I know, I know--it's nerdy when people show pictures of their kids and I whip out a shot of my dog and my greenhouse. But I can't help it--it's so exciting!)

I vote for the 10th or the 17th, but the other days are ok too.

If it's at Black Hill Regional Park, I volunteer to be the swap Grand Poobah.

I think you should just pick a date that you can handle and schedule the swap.

I vote for Saturday (Oct 9th) or Sunday (Oct 10th).

I hope we get a large turn out if it ends up on Sunday.
Last year we had a very small turnout.

Yes, Sunday, October 10, works for Black Hill Regional Park. Shall we say 10 a.m. (ish), like last year? Or later? (Or earlier?) In the parking lot in front of shelters D, E, and F.
