Minnesota Hosta Society Garden Tour

We lucked out with the most beautiful day for the tour of 4 gardens in the Highland Park area of St. Paul.

All of the gardens had hosta, but the emphasis of all four was more on hardscape, and a multitude of shrubs, conifer, trees and flowers mixed in. A real treat because after the national convention I was about hosta'd out - if you can imagine that.

Connie (flowersformez4) came up from Illinois with her sister Rita. And Debbie (applebrowndebbie) came south from Little Falls, MN. One of the gardener's

On Sunday, I took Connie and Rita to Hideko's garden and then to Venero's a nursery about 2 miles from Hideko's.

Debbie and Rita bought quite a few things and I got my first small conifer along with 4 other things. Don't have pics of the plants to post but here are a couple of pics from the tour. I only had so much time at lunch to upload and post photos. I hope Lisa Putnam can post some of her photos, and perhaps Connie can when she returns to Illinois tomorrow!

Unfortunately we will not be touring private gardens only the B'ham Botanical Garden. Do come out to the convention because we have a great lineup planned and several vendors will be selling lots of hostas and other plants.

No you will NOT see me on Sat. My home is licensed for Adult foster care, hense my husband will be in attendance and I will be caring for our foster daughter. I understand "others" reported that I must be mean according to one of two e-mails that Teresa sent me to my home e-mail address. Band aids needed to cover a wound? No cat fight here. It struck me funny to think that the "organizing" job would be up for grabs. * Oh Andrea: Our paths will cross in your State this June. hi warhawk... the green and gold hosta society is based out of green bay...here is their schedule for this year... june 9th and 10th,,,1 member is having a personal garden walk and plant sale at her house june 16th,,,the green and gold society hosta sale is at one of the members houses... there are 3 chit chats held at different members places...so you can see 3 more yards...those are scheduled june 20,,,july 11,,,and august 1 august 7th is their roadtrip to oshkosh to visit 4 gardens, have lunch, and go shopping at 1 garden center... september 8th there is a sale at the green bay botanical gardens with lots of vendors....not just hostas... you can inquire about membership to: Karen VandenHeuvel W1842 Culbertson Road Seymour, WI 54165 dues are $8 per person or $12 for families per year ____________ there is also the "Wisconsin Hosta Society" based in Madison maybe you would like to check them out also... OMG - that place is beautiful. LOVE the stone steps with the big boulder walls!!! And the pic with the three Patriots evenly spaced with the grass between - great design idea I'll be copying. The thing about being in the ground for so long and being so big - people ask all the time why mine are so big - half of them have been in the ground without division OR moving for 20 years. I wonder if just moving will shrink them...I should start another post with that question. Thank you so much for going to the trouble of making the slideshow, Melissa....very much appreciated. I see I started a sentence that I did not finish. That's what happens when you are posting while you are at work! ;-0

One of the gardeners had a 30 year old Blue Moon Wisteria that was huge. She packaged 3-4 bean pods in small envelopes for each of the 200 garden visitors to take home.

The last flower from Lee Shannon's garden is a Bleeding Heart Vine...a tropical for sure. Beautiful pics, Teresa!!! Thanks for sharing!

I am not only tired out....I feel like I have been hit by a truck! lol

I need to spend the rest of the summer in my own yard grooming and arranging it for years to come.

Shoot...I had a morning conflict with getting on the bus so I arrived after noon to catch the auction. I bought that red & white vine at Menards this spring. I regret not bringing my camera to the auction too. There was some great kodak moments. I heard the gardens were Fab! Accolades for your planning and hard work Teresa. Later, Love, Lisa

Oh darn! I was counting on Lisa being able to post some photos as I've never seen her anywhere without a camera in hand. Oh well - Connie? I hope you got some good shots you can post.

The horticultural name for Bleeding Heart Vine, or Glory Bower, is Clerodendrum Thomsoniae, in case anyone wants to hunt one up.
They are hardy to zone 10 -LOL- but can be grown in pots or hangers and wintered indoors for the rest of us.
There is also a much hardier shrub, but with different flowers- sort of like skinny lacecap hydrangeas in maroon/pink.
