I actually bought two last year to have instant gratification, but I must have received TCs. I received two plants with 1 eye each. Reading all the posts about nematodes last year, I gave them short baths in 10% chlorine (I believe) solutions, and they lost 1 or 2 leaves each from that, but survived. They were small skinny plants anyway and did not do much last year. This spring they were still alive, but looked skinny, so I potted them up. Now they both are bushy, but look more like Fire and Ice. I plan to plant them in the ground in a month.

They are supposed to become 32 inch tall, but are now 7 inches, so a long way to go, many years. It looks like white centered TCs are not a good investment for a retired guy like me, and I paid about $15 each. I also bought Eskimo Pie, another white centered one, also looked like a TC, and lost its single white leaf this spring, is now all green. I tend now to go to this local nursery which sells nearly mature plants in pots.

I recently purchased it's sport, 'Dancing Stars' instead. Has a wider border and thicker leaves. I figured that with a smaller white center and more leaf substance, it would have a better chance of surviving the long, hot, dry summers around here.

It's still in a pot, where I can keep it watered, without dragging a hose about the garden! I've a lot of practice doing that, during the past two months, as there has been only about ½" of total rainfall since June 2.

I've tried Dancing in the Rain a couple times, and have managed to get a few to look good, but mostly they have dwindled. I don't recommend it.

I got Dancing In The Rain a few years ago at 50% off end of season sale. I think it is very attractive---love the leaf color/pattern and shape. It is not a fast increaser --- I think mine is the same size as when I bought it. It is somewhat prone to insect damage.

OK,I understand I can't get a good response from any of you,but it is planted,and I will show you all how good I can grow this hosta,when it comes back up next year. Of course that's if it ever rains again! Tomorrow it will be 2 weeks of desert-like weather with no rain at all. It was 94 here yesterday,and isn't getting any better today. My next crop next year is going to be cacti!! It's like living in Florida again,without the benefit of their summer rains. If the hostas survive this drought,I will be surprised. I understand you all in the midwest are getting drowned! It figures;when we are bone dry,everyone else is getting drowned. I was even watching the Canadian open yesterday,and they were playing in the pouring rain!! Oh well,I guess someone has to be getting the rain. Over and out for this year! Phil

I planted this one last year but it didn't come up this year. I waited a long time before I finally poked around the ground. Nothing. Good luck on yours. I figure something new can go in that spot.

Another hostaphile in Eau Claire, Wi had a nice specimen I saw earlier this year. It wasn't structurally similar to Blue Umbrellas, more of a Whirlwind type structure but definitely larger than whirlwind. I was gonna condemn mine to the far corner of the yard until I saw his specimen. Give it plenty of light, wil help it grow better due to the amount of white on the leaves.

This is mine. It's at least 3 years old. Would be pretty if it grew at all.

I just planted the two Dancing in the Rain together for company in shade. They were both in a pot for 3 months. They are 2 years old and bushy now, seem they got a new set of leaves. They are looking good, perhaps because I sprayed them with BAP-10 and gave Green Light Root & Starter Solution (Rooting Hormones and 5-15-5) in the water, but who knows. They are small (7" tall), but there seems to be life and promise.
