Is a 5 1/2 foot flower stalk normal?

I just noticed a seedling in my garden that was planted years ago. This year it took off and produced some HUGE ruffled leaves. The larger leaves are over 14" wide which is on par with my Sum and Substance leaves. I noticed the flower stalk a couple days ago; it is a monsterous 5 1/2 feet tall. I have a couple crummy pictures posted below, but my question is this. Are there hostas that normally send off stalks this long? Should I expect to see one like it next year or is this a one off thing?

Please ignore the hail marks from last week!

Here's the top of the stalk

Here's the plant and stalk together. There are a bunch of other seedlings smashed in with this one so it may be hard to pick out the plany in question.
