Plant Sales Spring 2008

Hi

Seeing the postings for a possible date for the spring swap makes me itch for the dates for all the usual sales. Lets post them here as we learn of them.

Ill start us off with:

Bowie-Crofton Garden Club Plant Sale, Saturday April 26, 8AM - Noon. Location is the Library Parking lot, on Rt. 450 in Bowie (next to the high school).

The big plant sale at Green Spring Gardens is Saturday May 17

Historic Annapolis Foundation usually holds its huge 2 day annual plant sale at Paca Gardens during Mother's Day weekend on both the Saturday and Sunday

I picked up 3 really nice cane (angel wing) begonias with vivid leaf markings, my Mussaenda flava, daylilies from Beachlily, a couple of beautiful broms from the bromeliad society (glad I passed up the extremely expensive ones from the other vendor!), a 'husker red' penstemon, a blue-eyed grass, a pretty tile trivet for my neighbor who was having a dinner party Sat night, a tall red salvia, and a ratcheting clipper. I may be missing something but that's about it. I filled up my little red cart. The prizes were the muss, the angel wings and the broms. The rest was just frosting on the cake. I had a great time, as always. I tried to get into the Leu sales area to say 'howdy' to Eric but he was the Belle of the Ball and you couldn't get near him! LOL! Kate

And don't you get discouraged if Charlene is a little distant from you. You know, like not participating in the running RMG chatter. I figured last year it was over 800 miles for me to go . . . won't be making it this year either. And, if a swap is ever held at the home of some of our most distant RMGardeners, I'd need to travel something like 1100 miles for that one!! You know what, you Colorado gardeners (and you know who you are) - if I was to travel to Santa Fe for anything, even by road trip all the way - the only CO town I'd pass thru on the shortest route would be Cortez?!!? digitS'

native plant sale National Arboretum 29 March 10-2

Beltsville MD Garden Club plant sale #1, High Point High School 12 April 8-12 -- get there early!

American Horticulture Society sale, River Farm -- 17/18/19 April. Good cheap source for unusual woodies.

Nat Arboretum Garden Fair plant sale 26 April 9-4

Beltsville MD Garden Club plant sale #2 10 May 8-12 -- get there early!

main Paca house sale, Annapolis 10 May 10-4 -- get there early!

I think that's all I usually go to, besides the various Club swaps.

One more. I just heard back from Londontown Gardens; their sale is 0800 on 26 April, with a member's preview the day before at 4 pm. This one is worth it -- my fernleaf peonies come from there.

Green Spring Gardens Park, Alexandria (really Annandale) May 17, 9-3. A big event with alot going on. It is well organized. Umpah band in the gazebo. We have to park in satellite area and are shuttled in. I like it because you are buying directly from the growers w/o middle man. Non-profit societies also represented. Theme gardens also nice.

in Southern Anne Arundel County:

Our Lady of Sorrows RC Church Choir
Sat - Sun May 3/4
sales before and after masses, and Sat. morning.

Plants from a local nursery for sale to benefit the choir
for a future trip to Ireland.

Theres a plant sale featuring natives on May 10th in Prince Frederick, MD. at the old library.

Friends of Black Hill Nature Programs are having a sale of native Maryland plants and wildflowers to support thier new greenhouse on May 16, 5-7PM, and May 17, 9AM to noon). The address is Black Hill Regional Park, 20926 Lake Ridge Drive, Boyds, MD 20841. Refreshments will be served.

There is a native plant sale May 10 from 8-12 at The Grange, held by the Friends of Riverbend Park. I've never been, but I thought I'd add it to the list.

Do any of these sales have vegetable plants?

- Cathedral Garden Mart - May 2-3
- Silver Spring Garden Mart at Brookside - May 10
- Green Spring Gardens Sale - May 17
(includes area Mum Society sales that weekend)
