i can't believe how stupid my mother is *epic rant*
Comments (71)Kim, I accept/appreciate the sentiment conveyed in your above post. I continue to feel, though, that if one must use Holy Writ to justify a position OR to instruct others, then it's important (especially given the tenor of our times) to be very sure that whatever divine dictum invoked is quoted with accuracy. With all due respect, I think you've read into the verse you cited something that simply isn't there. That directive & its accompanying promise appear multiple times in both Testaments. In every instance (and in all of the several translations I'm aware of) the adjective modifying "long life" is either "thy" or "your", NEVER "their". So, everybody, we can lighten up and be of good cheer -- God is not going to off mom & dad before their time simply 'cause (like me) you were an insufferable young hellian. On the other hand, as a result of those juvenile trangressions, we maturing delinquents may rapidly (and deservedly?) be approaching our own personal, sadly premature end of days. :-) Since, unfortunately, we're in the mode, I might as well remind the peeved here of the sacred injunction regarding the casting of stones (that would be John 8:7). To any who maintain that they were never in the grips of an irrational snit with a parent (and vocal about it) allow me to say this: Get real. I don't believe a word of it....See MoreWhat Is The Most Valuable Lesson Learned As A MG (or MG trainee?)
Comments (17)Neil- The Master Gardener program is great but is supposed to be for amateurs, not pros, and particularlly for those wanting to volunteer in their communities. Short of degree programs in hort and botany from institutions of higher learning, many community colleges have good landscape design certificate programs for landscape professionals wanting to know more about plants and horticulture. Also, actual gardening, horticultural, and design experience. There are gardening schools like Ann Lovejoy's in Oregon and those associated with large botanical gardens; also on-line landscape design degree programs. The one through the Univeraity of Guelph in Canada is supposed to be one of the best distance learning landscape design programs. I have learned a lot from attending workshops and licensing/certification programs offered by state universities; MA, VT, and NH cooperative extensions; Northeastern Organic Farmer's Organization, NH Forestry, Fish and Game, Conservation Commission offerings; the annual green industry convention in Boston; books, journals, magazines; the Internet, especially GardenWeb and Google. Self-teaching through experience and trial & error. Hooking up with experienced gardeners, naturalists and the like willing to share their knowledge: a mentor. And experience, experience, experience. Comments (9)I hear you because I am paying attention. How frightening your recent experiences must have been! As I have already shared with some of you via phone, we were heading towards Mt Rushmore when our rental car (with only 6000 miles) broke down on I-90. The very condensed version--after 3 hours on the side of the road and many conversations with the car rental agency, who was 8 hours away, we were towed to the dealership. I called the rental agency and asked the person I had been dealing with--what do you want me to do with the keys? She said very sarcastically "why don't you just walk into the showroom and had them to someone?". I yelled at her "for the 3rd time, the dealership is closed and there is no one to give the keys to!" She yelled back that she wasn't going to help me if I didn't calm down. I told her that I was the one who was on the side of the road for 3 dangerous and hot hours plus one hour in a tow truck. I told her never mind, I will make the decision on what to do with the keys since she was more interested in scolding me than dealing with the security of the car. I threw the keys in the adjoining corn field. Thank you for letting me vent....See MoreIs this just me or is this rude? Need reality check.
Comments (79)Tina, Mom is competent but she is needing more help as it is obvious it is increasinging harder for her to do things. DH is taking over paying her bills, ordering checks, setting her finances up with our book keeper, etc. she asked him or help in this area. Plus, she has lived alone for too long with little stimulation other than a TV. That would make anyone dull. I bought her a 'Word Search' puzzle book and she picks it up every chance she gets. She is addicted! I think she is getting sharper just being around her family and dogs. Mom is very sentimental. Everything she has represents a precious memory. Going through her things and asking her about them brings stories. "That was a wedding gift from such and such." She likes her things. She saved it all. She is attached to her things like they are old friends. now he wants me to have it all. LOL. Mom: "That is yours now." Me: "No, Mom. It is yours." Mom: "It is ours." Me: "This is our home." But it isn't going to work like that. Things will be shared between "her boys." Lukki, I remember now that you are one of five girls. As am I. I feel lucky to be the youngest as I remember watching how my sisters acted and making decisions on who I wanted to be. There is a large age span so I was observing teen drama as a toddler. I learned all the popular music from listening to my sisters playing the radio. I remember thinking from a very young age how I would do it different than they did. I'm still kind of doing that. I want to keep the Snell family together. I love 'her boys' too. They are kind and loving. I must keep trying to work with SIL without letting her bulldoze me....See Morecalistoga_al ca 15 usda 9
