Noticed a lot of positive reviews about the Miele on here. I've always had Miele and I love Miele, especially when it comes to how quiet they make every product (cant even hear my dishwasher when its on). But I'm disheartened, we did some renos on our house and in the attic rec room, we wanted extremely soft, thick/plush carpet. We got what we asked for, it's lovely, feels like your walking on a cloud. Many people comment on the fact that they could probably sleep on the floor it's so soft. I'm going into all this detail because I can BARELY push my, ever so loved, Miele canister vacuum on it! I'm looking for advice from anyone who has a super thick carpet like ours. I actually break a sweat trying to vacuum the attic space. I have to lean almost all my weight onto it. I'm nervous to get another vacuum because I feel that this one is really one of the best, we paid a lot for it and I dont want to spend money only to get the same problem, plus a lesser quality clean. We have the cat and dog canister model, I tried adjusting the settings but I just can't seem to get it to ease up. Do I have the wrong vacuum for this type of carpet???? Our cleaning lady has a shark that she brought over because she also couldn't push our Miele. Unfortunately, I need to vacuum this carpet more often than she's here to help. I'm not big on the shark. We have carpet on our stairs and it doesn't seem stair friendly. I'm also not into the 'bag-less' vacuums due to the extra cleaning of the containers. It sounds silly but I'm rather heartbroken because I absolutely love my vacuum in all other situations, and I love/trust Miele. Would the S7 line be a better fit? @sds333 how thick is your carpet? I think ours is at least an inch thick, it might be more. I'm having a hard time finding any other feedback on the issue we're having. This is the most similar, so thank you for any insight, it's very appreciated.

Wow. I just came back in to check for responses, and what an embarrassment of riches I found! Thank you all so much for such thoughtful, and helpful, responses. Mahlgold -- I guess misery must enjoy company, but it's nice to see that I am not the only one sweating this question. Our budget is flexible (as my mother used to say, "afford is a funny word"), but the money saved would definitely be put to good use on all the other things our house needs, so if I can save here that would be great. I am not comparing apples to apples on the cabs -- the Cabicos are cherry, which of course Ikea does not carry, but I like the Tidaholm (very contemporary oak doors) almost as much. I will definitely put the current design into the Ikea tool to make sure it will work -- I already know that I will have to do one modification, to create a corner sink cab (instructions on Ikeafans!!). I have some flexibility as we are doing a gut remodel, taking down walls, etc.,but I agree that if I have to jury-rig things too much it won't make sense. You all have collectively helped me make up my mind --although I will also send up an inquiry at Ikeafans for anyone over there who has had their Ikea cabs a long time. kgolby, sorry I didn't mean to lump you in with the other comment, I realized they were separate. mpagmom, I was probably over reacting being sick and exhausted... and having just recently spend hours deciding to go with tile instead of beadboard after finding the affordable 23 cents/tile ($1.80/sq ft) HD and Lowes tile, I was a bit dismayed to hear it called horrible! I am sure it would not work out for every kitchen - the HD tile has a definite warm tone to it, while the Lowes product at the same price point is a purer white. With these 2 choices, probably one or the other would work for most kitchens. If your backsplash area is large like mine, the difference between $1.80 and $10/sq ft is $100 vs $500, which is the entire budget for my kitchen facelift! North...one should de-glaze with room temperature liquid, and do it slowly, to avoid thermal shock. Never use cold water or a significant amount of cooler liquid quickly. Most warping occurs from incorrect usage: Bring the cookware to temperature slowly. Do not dump cold water into or on top of a hot pan. Always match the burner size to the pan size. Large pans can be more susceptible to warping if the burner is a ring. This is due to the lack of even heating across the surface. A pan with excellent heat conductivity, such as copper, will mitigate this. Some high-quality stainless steel brands are Demeyere, Viking, and Mauviel.
