What's your favorite tropical night-blooming lily?
Comments (2)Hi Catherine, I ordered a Juno myself this year, and I'm also trying "Red Flare". I like night bloomers because they are blooming when the regular ones aren't. They open about 4p.m. and close about 10 a.m. :)...See MoreWhat are your favorite water lilies?
Comments (11)Hi I only grow tropicals because I live in S. florida .I'm not sure how cold hardy they are but know they will survive frost. These have the most varieties such as night blooming, have bigger flowers held much further from the water and of course many shades of blue . I only grow two ,Blue Goddess and King of Siam. they have very large sky blue and deep purple flowes often as much as 14 inches accross held two feet out of the water. While the color is fantastic they also have incredible aromas. If you can grow tropicals I'd choose from them by blooming phase(day or night) then by size. many get enormous so plan accordingly lol. What's your favorite color. ?? Do you plan on growing other types of water plants?? If so you will have to leave room for them . There are just too many to choose from and water lilies are incredibly easy to grow . look at some lists and see what appeals to you. Pay particular attention to spread and pad size can range from around two inches to well over six feet!! So choose the growth that fits your pool !! gary...See MoreWhat is your favorite and least favorite flower to grow?
Comments (9)mla20fus, my favorite flowers are perennials, so I don't have to plant them every year. I also love Holihocks, (sorry, every plant needs loved by someone :),especially by an old outhouse or shed. I plant very few annuals, but I truely love breadseed poppy, especially the bright red ones. They bloom with the Shasta Daisy and really make a show. The daisies were all volunteer, but now that I know how they look with my poppies, they can stay. I also plant gypsoia (sp?) and moss rose every year, they too are worth the effort. Are your fall Asters the deep purple ones?...See MorePoll: Well planned lily bed - what are your favorite lily compani
Comments (27)Alina -- Gardening in a small space is fun! I'm a city dweller -- the widest point in my backyard is 20 feet. Having only so much space, I think, forces you to be more creative in putting things together, and to be more ruthless and experimental. So many things are trial and error anyhow in gardening. This season alone, I've redesigned my front yard twice, and there's still tweaking to do. I'm sure whatever you end up doing will eventually look fabulous. :) As for the roses, I don't plant the bulbs right up against them (they're about a foot from the base), and I use a soaker hose for watering. The bulbs aren't waterlogged because I wove the hose a couple of inches away from them, so they still get water, just not as much as the roses. Ironically, though, the couple of lilies that ended up on the waterline are taller and thicker than the others. They seem to be very happy. Leslie -- Thank you so much for sharing your combination. I love those 2 daylilies together against the purple. You have a really good eye......See Morehostaholic2 z 4, MN
