Comments (2)Make sure the electric tape doesn't wind up girdling the whole tree. When it starts to get too tight you can use a razor and make a single slice, test the branch and if it still needs support tape again. You will save the branch if it has enough connecting tissue to give it adequate sap which would already be apparent. As the trunk grows it will wrap the branch with new tissue and in a couple years- good as new. I hate those 4-1 trees because varieties have such variance of vigor. Better to make your own 3 in 1 by grafting up a central leader (Christmas tree shape) making each of 3 tiers a different variety starting with the most vigorous cultivar for the lowest tier. It's my own secret method (which I'm sure others have also discovered)....See MoreHELP! need advice on saving a large broken branch
Comments (5)orchidguy is right. In most cases, pruning paint/sealer is not only useless in fending off unwanted problems, but can prevent a woody plant from doing its own 'healing'. It was once thought that these products kept disease pathogens from entering a wound, but we know, now, that that is not the case. The only times that I would ever recommend that a sealer be used is if the plant in question is susceptible to a particular type of borer insect and it was the time of year for that borer to be active....See MoreHelp! Broken branch, can I save the tree?
Comments (4)I'd say to root any pieces as you would a cutting - allow to callous then using tdogdad's method of a perlite channel in potting soil or go to Plumeria101.com. Trim off any large leaves that are left. For the root ball, trim off anything that looks too damaged - on the top too, you would want to trim off anything that is ragged. When I receive a rooted cutting in the mail I always soak it overnight in a SuperThrive solution then pot in a perlite-heavy mix, water with the SuperThrive solution, place it on the brick patio etc. What happened to your tree?? Comments (16)Yes, that's what I was talking about. That was useful, and I actually went ahead and searched some more info on my own and found this cool site http://www.exoticrainforest.com/Grow%20or%20Growing%20Philodendrons.html The Pothos is very lively! Last year I was living in a college apartment and I had it on my nightstand next to my bed and there was a window next to the nightstand, all the windows at that place were not sealed very good so on cold windy winter days/nights a cool draft would come in the window (plus to save money I had the thermostat set to 60 degrees lol) but the Pothos never complained! I'm thinking in a few years when my grafted orange tree gets to its full size in a 5 gallon pot that I might try getting a cutting from the pathos and try to propagate it in the trees pot and see if I can get it to climb my tree (The tree should get about 6 feet tall according to the company I got it from) So far no change in the succulent cuttings appearance, it still appears just like it did when it was attached to the plant so, so far so good! I know from propagating a Zygo cactus from a cutting last year that the leaves may shrivel up before the roots form but so far it hasn't happened....See Moremarchela
