This year I purchased a Blaze of Glory, which is outstandingly yellow and it is just now blooming. The blooms look very white to me, but sometimes I have seen what I consider white flowers described as very pale lavender. But my Blaze sure looks white.

there are very, very few true white flowers ...

as noted.. most have at least a tinge of purple [if only at the bud stage] ... that quickly fades ...

plantaginea has the quintessential white bloom.. so many of its fragrant progeny ... like FB carry the trait ...

Ken, you are absolutely correct. I, like most other hosta fanciers look into the funnel of my hosta blooms and love the delicate markings that are there. There is also the curbside view, or "view from the highway", and I have stopped driving at times to take a better look at a magnificant looking hosta that appears to have white flowers. I welcome anyone driving by who sees my "white" flowers to come and peek inside the flower and view the color show our hostas give us. A lot of my fragrants bud out purple but look white when open but my plantaginea bud out pretty white.

cAROL - if the curbside view is what you asked about, I cast one vote for BofG. I haven't even seen the inside yet but will very soon - maybe today (smile).

Color is a strange thing. A blue-jay doesn't have blue feathers and the ocean isn't blue. The colors we see are reflected light rays of varying wave-length: which are reflected and which are absorbed is built into the chemistry of the object the rays crash into.

Thanks every one,I ask, because I have a two year old seedling, that is yellow,and has the prettiest white flower, yes, with light lavender stripes inside.I have quite a few blues,and greens, with light flowers, but none that are yellow, in my garden any way.This one is an eye catcher,

Pretty nice. I like the yellow and green together. The more mature leaves have both rugosity and ruffles. What is the substance like cAROL?

This Hosta, seems to be a somewhat fast grower, it was just a little seedling in 2008,of course, I still do not know what size she will be when fully grown.
Substance is nice, not real thin,when you fun your hand over the back side of her leaves,you can feel the veins,she has a slight two tone coloring to her,green and yellow, with a hint of a ruffled leaf.She could have a parent of Spring Fling, as she was found close by.Her color stays consistent through out the growing season, so far.
It is always fun finding apretty,growing from a seedling,thanks every one for having a look, and to you Steve, for posting this picture for me.I think she is quite lovely "avec" flowers. :0)

cAROL, I tried to add my comments regarding how happy you must be having such an attractive seedling, but I didn't have time to figure out how to post consecutively avec-out (see how far my French goes?) having my post rejected because I had already submitted a posting.

Her combination of yellow and white is really stunning and she is a "car-stopper" (like the classic picture of Marilyn Monroe in her white dress).

Steve - is there a French expression meaning "view from the highway?"
