do you move little casablancas?

The Casablancas bloomed great and now have little plants next to them. Do I need to dig and replant these further apart or will they bloom just fine where they are? Thanks.

No, I don't but then I'm lazy, actually not so much lazy as leary. I don't have a lot of good lily growing spots in my normally heavy wet clay yard. So if I have a place, or manage to create an environment that they like enough to spread in - I leave them alone. I don't move my lilies until they are a giant mess, pushing themselves up and out of the ground sort of like a volcano - that or if they stop blooming, which they usually don't.

I nearly had a heart attack last year when some fairly large rodent-like thing made an underground nest in one of the few areas of yard with loose soil and raised up a large daylily and a big clump of LA Hybrid lilies out of the ground. Well I replanted the lilies (way too shallowly as I later learned here - I planted them at the level they were, but apparently they were so crowded that they had grown all topsy turvy on top of themselves) and had to go out into the cold in late fall and pile mounds of mulch on top of them. Anyway they all made it through the winter and are living nicely all along the fence - don't think I'll wait quite that long the next time to divide my lilies. LOL

note to Leslie..what I want to know is what happened to the "FAIRLY LARGE RODENT LIKE THING". groundhog. I move my Lilies all over the place. At least the new ones. The originals I never move. Either way they will bloom wherever you have them.

Hi, Bloom time for Oriental lilies is about two weeks, sometimes a little longer (but not much longer). So you can't count on them being still in bloom at the end of two weeks from now. They MAY be, it depends on how "ripe" the other buds look. Sometimes one bud will pop open early with a small lag before the others get started. But, if this is the start of your bloom then at two weeks they'll be starting to taper off. Blooms that are still around will be "mature" looking, with pollen dropping. Since its a wedding I'd make sure to have a "plan B" whether that be cutting these and refrigerating them or ordering some from a florist . Check with your florist about the amount of notice they would need so you can see how your Casa Blanca's are doing before ordering. If you cut and refrigerate your plants make sure to take them out of refrigeration with enough time for them to open up. Again, ask a florist. I just know that when I buy cut lilies that are mostly unopened buds it takes a few days for them to open up. Good Luck and Congratulations! -Helen

Moving Shower Door Outward, A Little?

Improper pitch on the top of the curb should be your only concern. The top of the curb should be pitched slightly back into the shower. If it is, that'll help any water that runs down the doors and onto the top of the curb to flow back into the shower and down the drain. If your curb is flat, then just live with it or squeegee it off, or hit it with your towel when you're done drying off if standing water ever becomes an issue. Worst case if if the curb is pitched slightly to the outside of the shower. It shouldn't be, but if it is you could end up with a little swimming pool. Use 100% silicon to bed the bottom track onto the curb. Latex could emulsify with repeated exposure standing water. Other than that, no worries.

I too went through a period of "let down" or depression after we finished our home. The whole process is so intense and creative than it is back to the reality of everyday mundane life. I think many people thrive on a certain level of stress and homebuilding definitely provides for that. I also enjoyed the constant interaction with the people as my daily life is pretty quiet being at home with my kids most days. It has taken 6 months but things are definitely feeling more "normal" now. I am finally to the point where I can say I love my house and just am content with the knowledge that I will have exciting projects in the future to work on. Cah3036 Â I know what you mean about decorating. I think I could boost my spirits about the house quite a bit if I knew how to decorate it and had a lot of fun money to play with - which I definitely donÂt :). In six months we have only hung one picture on the wall and that was our wedding picture! I am at a loss as to what to do with the rest. Maybe I need to start hanging out in the decorating forum instead of the home building one. Good luck and know that it will get easier with time. Getting out and laughing with friends and hubby help a lot too. Start other projects as time/money allows. Things will get dinged up, scratched, and stained and know that each one gets a little easier. I was determined from the start not to let that stuff get to me as we built this house to raise our kids in Â not as a showroom. That reminds me Â I have a friend who is actually going to sell her home that they built almost two years ago because her husband is so stressed out by living in a new place. She said he constantly yells at her and their four kids for messing the place up and doing anything that might "damage" the house. He wasnÂt like that in their previous home. His obsession with keeping the place perfect is driving them out and back into an older, cheaper place where she hopes he can relax. WeÂll seeÂ

I have been thinking a lot about comfort zones since Katrina. People refused to get on planes to go to states with low unemployment rates, and inexpensive housing so I asked myself where I would be willing to go. I am from Washington State. I would be pretty comfortable going to Oregon, Idaho, Colorado, Montana, the Dakotas, and Arizona. Anything else seems too far away, too foreign, too unfamiliar. I think this carries over into retirement planning. I couldn't go to Georgia because it is too far away. Until it got too expensive, people from Washington who wanted a warmer climate when they retired went to Caifornia. Now it is Arizona and Arizona is where I plan to go. It seems to me that people in the Northeast are more likely to stay on the east coast. I don't know what people in the heartland do. Do you go to Texas, New Mexico or ? Part of it is that I don't want to be more than a 3 hour plane ride from my children, but I think there is more to it than that. There may be very little difference from one state to another, but I don't know that and something in me seeks the familiar. Coming from a "blue" state, I will settle into the only "blue" county in Arizona. I would like to be more adventurous, but I always find myself seeking out the familiar. Someone I knew years ago had moved to Washington from the east coast. She said that it was so important to her that television was the same everywhere. Some people derided her comment because of her reliance on television, but I think I know what she meant. Once while visiting in South America, I found myself watching Plaza de Sesamo (Sesame Street) just for the familiar characters.

I have no idea. Rodent thing just left its den empty and disappeared. Hole was a good 3 ft in diameter and sort of lined inside with some sort of soft silky stringy stuff. Looked like a nest for baby rodent things.

The top of the hole was folded back like an attached box lid & the plants which included tall lily stalks (long finished blooming) and one established daylily were lying almost parallel to the ground still stuck together. You know what clay soil looks like in August! The sprinkler line which ran underneath this bed to the lawn was also chewed up and had to be repaired.

I didn't want to replant in this area in case it returned, so this spring I moved a large patch of Knautia macedonica (always get lots of seedlings from these) into that area. Figured it was easily replaceable.
