Getting a new hosta is almost never a mistake. Thunderbolt is very nice, however I would definitely go back and get Blue Ivory. I got one this year, just one eye, and it's that pretty dusty blue with a wide white margin. I found a picture of a mature one, and IMO, it's a knockout.

Absolutely go back. Look under the sofa cushions for loose change, check the floor of the car, check everyone's pockets in the laundry, or even while they sleep. Go get Blue Ivory! I hope that was the support you were looking for - lol

Ummm, guess it's better to fess up? I have to admit I'm guilty! I bought 4 hostas last weekend from a local nursery for $7.95 a piece and none of them were on my extensive wish list. And the list keeps changing every time someone on here mentions a beautiful "gotta have" hosta.

On another thread, someone mentioned getting Liberty (I have 2) from Bridgewood Gardens, so I went to their website and they had my much sought after White Christmas at a ridiculously low price, so I bought 2 and a few others not on my wish list.

And I said I would not buy any this year, total so far is: 24. This is why I work, work, work......and enjoy my garden every day! Even my husband's family comment on how beautiful my garden is and that is all I need to hear.

I say go get Blue Ivory and enjoy! You have my support!!

Anyone have 'Blue Ivory' AND 'First Frost'? I'm just wondering how similar they may be?

What I have done is see a hosta in a nursery,and pass on it,because I didn't like the way it looked,only to find out later that it looks much better as a mature plant. Phil

Here are Blue Ivory and First Frost for comparison. I just got Blue Ivory, and I love it. First Frost doesn't get real white for me... too much shade, I suppose. I'll be interested to see if Blue Ivory emerges white or yellow. I'd definitely have both if I were you.

I have had both for a few years as lois has shown that they are different. I would of not passed up Blue Ivory over Thunderbolt. You can get a Thunderbolt anytime which is a common. Blue Ivory is less known and sometimes you go back and then they are gone! Go Back...Hurry! lol

Both are stunning plants.

Thanks everyone for the input. Actually as I was pulling out of the nursery parking lot I was already regretting my choice. Although I love the look of Thunderbolt.

Hostared, I don't mind 'common' hosta if I like them, but for what I paid for it I could have bought not only Blue Ivory but Orange Marmalade. Guess they saw me coming. LOL.

So I took Pam's advise, I searched the house, the car, the laundry...LOL, not really, but close. I'm going back today and see if Blue Ivory is still there. Wish me luck, and I will let you know.

I went back to the nursery and they still had Blue Ivory. So I got Blue Ivory and Orange Marmalade. Those two, totalled together, only cost $5.00 more than Thunderbolt. Thinkin' I got took on Thunderbolt.
