Blue Ivory is okay...a lot like some of the others. Sometimes, however, there's a little green streaking in the white margin.

Great Escape is nearly identical, but without any greenish streaking. Nice, snow white margin. A nicer plant, IMO.

The best one IMO is Autumn Frost...an outstanding new sport of First Frost from Walters Gardens. Get that one and you won't be disappointed.

Mine this year seem a little thick and they have seemed to hold the creamy edge better than last year but it's still just June. My two are 3 years old. I also have mine in mostly shade.

this is a very interesting topic....i have bought 'great escape' from 2 different sorces,1 from holland and 1 from the uk....i have found the ones from holland are alot smaller then the ones from the uk and the white margins are alot wider on the uk ones...so im thinking one of them might be 'blue ivory'....this is the one i think might be 'blue ivory'..

i havent got any pics of my other 'great escape' yet but will get some later..anyway thats just my observation

I guess Blue Ivory makes good grub, sorry to see that Frank. UK...your big one from the UK is magnificent, I had not seen Great Escape before. Man, I hate it when I have to find scrap paper to write down another hosta name...

My Blue Ivory is in mostly shade, I have had it three years and it has grown slowly but been beautiful. I moved it just yesterday because another, larger plant needed more room and it was easier to move this one.

Now it will get a little more sun and I plan on watching it closely to make sure it is happy where it is. I love the colors of this one!

This is my Blue Ivory this season. It looked exactly the same last season, and was planted the year before that! A slowwww grower for me but cute anyways.

Beautiful, but very slow here too.

I have had mine for about 3 years, and this year it started to revert back to all blue. Guess I will have to look into 'Great Escape'.

Naylor usually has it but are sold out. Jim's has it for $18. In the Country Garden and Gifts has it for $20. White Oak for $12.

Thanks for the tip Steve. I looked up White Oak and they have it listed but do not mention size. Have you dealt with them before?

I haven't personally, but I believe others on this board have used White Oak with good results.

White Oak is just across the river from me but I have never bought from them as they don't allow local pickup. Mail order only.

Some nurseries are selling small, tissue-culture "baby" plants. We refuse to do that. All of our plants are field-grown, not pampered, small greenhouse specimens. When we do buy tissue culture plants we make sure they're grown for at least two years after leaving the lab. Thus, you're getting plants that have lived through Illinois winter conditions. Small, baby plants are much more prone to winter kill than mature plants. Money saved by purchasing small plants is often lost in this way. So, if you find a source for plants much cheaper than us, please take the time to establish exactly what kind of plant you'll be getting.

And they sell dormant plants, not fully leafed out ones. I bought from them in 2008, and the plants have done well.

The plant that are dormant are the ones from the refrigerator sale other wise depending when shipped are leafed out. I have ordered from there many times and they are excellent plants. Bob Keller is the owner and a heck of a nice guy. Lived in Peoria for many years and have met him personally. The plants I have gotten take off fast and increase in eyes at a fast rate. Yes he just ships til the end of May but takes orders in the winter. Lou

Oh, well the one time I did order from there was during the refrigerator sale, so I guess I thought they all came dormant. Eh, shows how much I know. But my plants did come nice and healthy and would be huge this year except I had to move them all late in the season last year, so this year they all came back up a little smaller (leaf size wise, not eye size, they actually multiplied). And in a few weeks, or sooner, they'll get moved again from their temporary place to their new permanent place.

Uk-hostaman, what is the blue & gold hosta to the left of your Great Escapes? Your hosta collection and garden look beautiful from what I could see in the background. If you don't mind sharing, I'd love to see more pics!!

havent seen him in 3 to 5 years.. here in this forum.. and its not even his post.. so dont expect an answer from him.. maybe others??..
