When I watered my plant today these worms and bug things came out with the water. Should I be replanting it to get rid of any other living bugs inside. The plant seems to be taking a turn towards the worse. Some of the limbs are browning and yellowing and just seem limp. Robin, I think you are probably good on the conditions (shady to part sun). I wouldn't grow this species in standing water, but anything from slightly moist to wet is probably fine. They seem to do well in rich organic "mucky" soil, the same kind of soil you might use for skunk cabbage, false hellebore, marsh marigold, and swamp pink. They will also thrive in a normal woodland garden, even if it has periodic dry periods. They will spread over time but are really slow growers. It can take years from seed to bloom.

The 1st two like a filtered light place. They can handle more sun but the leaves will tend to turn purple rather than green... some people like the purple color. I water the 1st two when dry; they can handle a bit more water than other caudex Euphorbia. I am not familiar with the last but it looks like it is in the E. milii family and I would grow it as you would plants in that group. Too much sun will cause some Euphorbia to stop growing and this may be your situation.

1a/b. Weeds, obnoxious ones. Name doesn't come to mind. 2. Maybe jasmine 'nudiflorum' (winter jasmine) or some type of horizontal-growing cotoneaster. Both can make, as you say, a tangled mass, but both are well worth growing if you don't mind a little judicious pruning every year or so. 3. Some type of hydrangea 'macrophylla'. Yours looks better than the dozen or so I've managed to kill over the years - I'd say it's a "keeper". The holly seedlings are an all-too-common pest. Pull them early and often, plus they come up in the very worst of places! 4. Some type of azalea? If so I say toss 'em in favor or something else that would appreciate the space. They look to be the cheap, common (Walmart) variety that are overused by landscapers as "foundation plants". 5. Welcome to the Alabama forum! 6. ROOT for Alabama ;-D 7.
