2005 What's on your Order list?

Elizabethtown

Ok I saw this one last year so I guess its time to start one for this year.

What have you ordered and/or traded for this year?

I could give you the whole list but I'll just do the ones I remember off the top of my head because those must be the really special ones.

Dumbledore, Muggles, Confederate Royalty, Infinity Rings, Maslon, Sky and Sun, Spitfire, Royal Maroon, Rosalie Loving, Spiderbaby (Spoon 2005 SDB), Happenstance, Friendly Seas, Cirrus Skies, Overjoyed, and I'm still trading for more.

How bout you?

6 MTB's, one of which is 'That's Red'. I can't remember the names of the other five. I'll be looking for 'Autumn Circus' in the stores this fall, otherwise I'll wait. Oh. Also 'Honorabile', 'Quaker Lady' and 'Wabash' (all historics). Needless to say, consistency is NOT my strong point.

OK, I confess: this year's order is mostly Japanese irises:
    Vermillion Sunset
    Trance
    Garnet Royalty
    Pleasant Earlybird
    Indigo Delight
    Summer Splash
    Japanese Harmony
    Oriental Royalty
    Dramatic Pattern
    Epimethius
    Flashing Koi

    Tall Bearded: Mesmerizer from Jain

    Border Bearded irises:
    Baboon Bottom
    Pink Bubbles

And no, I don't know where I'll plant all of these at this moment. Will figure that out later.....

it's so very easy to get to the park i wouldn't worry with it, john. or you could use tyndall's idea. "tj's shindig" may get a few lookers wantin' some pig, though! :) glad you'll be able to truely enjoy the food this go round. course there may not be much left for anyone else.... nan, i think it's an awesome idea to put our 'handles' on the back. i'm doing it with my stuff. i know i asked trina some ?'s about plants of hers i got last fall. just got the avocadoes today for the guac. they are really, really hard. cross your collective fingers they ripen to the point i can use them sat. i may have to do a chunky kind if they aren't soft enough.

I don't post here a lot, but I do on the Canadian forums. I lurk here :-) I don't grow a lot of tomato varieties but I do grow for quality. This year I have one plant, grown form a seed of the original Gordon Graham tomato. He has the world's record largest tomato according to the Guinness Book of World Records. Through good fortune and a friend, I was able to trade for just a few seeds from Gordon Graham's world record tomato. I got one to germinate, so I have one tomato plant that is a direct child of his original! I do grow other tomatoes but I'm really excited about this one! We had a very bad tomato year last year with lots of BER. This year I planted the tomatoes in my good lasagne "wine" garden, dug in lots of old manure, a little lime and one Tums tablet in each hole. The same friend who gave me the seeds above, told me that a Tums will help supply the calcium the tomatoes need to help prevent BER. So I'm trying it. It's easy and cheap, so I figured "Why not?" We'll see how it goes. Needless to say, I baby that plant! In addition to that one, I am also growing our own heritage Portugal beefheart tomatoes (see link to pic below), San Marzano, Manitoba, Ailsa Craig, and Rev Morrow long keeper. Here is a link that might be useful:

    Because we like it!

Looks like Wild Passions is a common order this year. I ordered it too and a few others some have mentioned.

Littlebit -- I too have not hit my AIS sales yet. Hoping to pick up SIBs only this year unless I find a really super cool recent intro or missing Dykes winners, or SDBs, IBs, ... Oh well, you get the picture.

Mid-America: Louisa's Song, Wearing Rubies, Aardvark Lark, Ocelet, Paul Black, Temple of Time, Cast a Spell, Drinks at Sunset, Devoted, Cats Eye, (bonus Full Figured and Cool Confidence). Keppel: Miami Beach, Fiery Temper, Decadence, Musician, Bel Esprit, Rio, Game Plan. Plus, he is very generous with bonuses. I was going to order from Aitken's too, but decided I had better wait until next year. (He he, these are the four I told my hubby I only ordered. I guess he will think I got a lot of bonuses this year. (Yeh right!)

I've ordered so much I'm embarrassed. The iris people are all so nice and then there is that minimum order thing--although I think I progressed well beyond the minimum on many orders.

And they all are so nice about letting you add more later!

I think I've ordered more than 50 iris--not a lot for those of you with acreage, but I'm in a place where we measure front yards in the square feet-- and I'm not very far into the triple digits. I may have to sneak a few into neighbor's yards!

Oh so many good ones out there. I wasn't going to order any this year but the spring bloom was so popular that I just had too. I think I have ordered 85 now. Almost as many as last year. Made some new beds, with hired back hoe, but I don't know if I have enough space for all of the new ones. Yikes! I don't want to squeeze them in so I may need more garden space. I wanted Louisa's Song but found it too late. Then could not find the one some fella showed in the gallery, can't find my notes but it began with an A, everyone when wild for, including me. Thank you all who post pictures, such inspiration and reliable sorces. I will post mine sometime this winter, I shot some nice ones!

    First year ordering Iris.

    Clarence (bearded, blue and white)
    Immortality (bearded, white)
Jennifer Rebecca (bearded, pink tinged lilac)
    Pink Attraction (bearded, clear pink)

Let me say that those repeaters sure are expensive. Then again I'm used to buying roses so in comparison they are cheap-Cheap-CHEAP!!!

I remember one lady on the old iris-L mailing list, detailing how she hid the box until her husband was at golf, then dragged it out and unpacked and planted. She felt soooo guilty about her iris excesses, until someone pointed out to her that her husband probably spent quite a considerable amount on his golf each year - LOL. It's a great hobby - you could be pushing your money into poker machines!

Oh my gosh I went totally NUTS. I have appx. 238 listed. Iris Name and info plus price I paid and who I ordered it from on some of the listings.Approximately 20 of these listings were planted last year when I started my Iris/Daylily gardens! This list is not my last updated list. Probably 25 or so more I've ordered not on this list yet. I'm totally addicted!!!

Hi Numama, Well you were brave enough to list all yours! Congradulations. It is fun to see all the different ones. I have about 50 percent of those listed and have not even heard of a third of the others. Makes me think I must take a look around. I don't think one can ever have or know all of them. But it is fun to think about it. Just can't order more however. I am the one who has to plant and take care of all of them Haven't heard of Nola's.
    Thanks for your list.

I can't imagine that I really need to chime in but why not? :)

The most important are gifts. Betty Wilkerson (who I met on my bus at the Convention) sent me one of her intro's 'Summer Radiance'. I can't wait to see it in bloom.

And I feel terrible about this but I've lost the e-mail address of the forum member that sent me I. tectorum. So if you sent it to me and you read this Thank-you!

I ordered from Schreiner's again this year. I've got piles and piles of lists of cultivars I meant to order but they all seemed to disappear when it came time to order. So I just went throught the catalog and picked out the one's that either stood out the most or that I've wanted for years.

    I ended up with:
    Brown Lasso
    Copatonic
    Copper Classic
    Crowned Heads
    Ghost Train
    Man About Town
    Mariposa Skies
    Play With Fire
    Polished Manners
    Puccini
    Recurring Delight
    Red Hawk
    Sky And Sun
    Snowed In
    Starring
    Suspicion
    Tangled Web
    Teamwork
    Terre De Feu
    Toasted Watermelon
    Tom Johnson
    Vigilante

    SDB's:
    Fires Of Fiji
    Forever Blue
    Ice And Indigo
    What Again

    Freebies:
    Midnight Revelry
    Young At Heart
    Tall Cool One
    Sambuca Rosa

I may be calling them up shortly since the confirmation postcard said they were supposed to ship the week of July 1.

Oh and last but not least, when I signed up with the Spuria Society they said they'd be sending me a SPU(my first).

I hope this is of interest to someone. :)

Looks like you got a few that are one my 2nd wave of orders. I got Tangled Web, Dragon Drums, and Sky and Sun. I also got a few more SDBs and other medians. I think I'm up to a total of 90 or so new irises and trade season isn't finished yet.

So needless to say when I see lists like Numama I just shake my head and remember when I first begin finding all the cool iris centers online and now look at where I am.

    Dear Numama!!!!
Thank you for sharing. I am out of room to plant but still have bought more irises this year than I know what to do with! I have been beating myself up about my iris addiction problem. You make me feel so much better....and it IS a HEALTHY addiction!

Believe it or not, I can't remember all that I ordered, and I didn't even order that many! I should have made copies of my orders, and kept the post card or e-mail that Superstition sent me. (Can you believe I managed to delete/lose both? All this paper around the house and it's never what I want.)

I ordered historic/fragrant iris. I know I ordered I. germanica, I. pallida Dalmatica, Archeveque, Crimson King, Eleanor Roosevelt, Picador -- that's all I remember for sure. Well, it should be a nice surprise when they arrive.

What Robin would say if he saw Beth's list, "HOLY IRIS ORDER BATMAN!"

    LOL

Beth, ya gotta post pictures of your flowers next year. Are they alllllll Talls?

Yep, Roni, they're mostly TB's. Hey, I just realized, I still haven't ordered from Sutton's. Aw heck, not sure I will tho. This is a lot of plants to get in the ground already. And with Sutton's, they give you almost as many bonuses as ordered irises! A couple yrs ago, I got something like 150 irises from them, and I think I ordered maybe 80. So maybe I better stop here! LOL

    Roni,
You've got me pegged! I'm a newbie to Iris and went a little overboard! Hard to stop when there are so many beauties out there!
    Beth,
I'm glad there is someone out there just as addicted as I am! Do you suppose anyone wants to trade when the time comes?

Garden Torture is so much fun! I'm the only one that will be planting the 200+ Iris I've ordered this year. My sister's husband came today with his tractor to clear the grass for me so I can till and plant.

Upon arriving home from work today I was so excited to see I rec'd two of my orders today. An order from Schreiners and an order from Snowpeak Iris and Daylillies. I am VERY IMPRESSED with my order from Snowpeak, I really expected smaller rhizomes because the prices were so low, but they are nice and big and not dried up at all! Very healthy looking. Anybody out there wanna help me plant? LOL

Nancy I'd love to help you plant...right after I get my own addiction in the ground and my sons through Allstar season. So far 4 orders/trades have arrived and I've only got one in the ground, sorta as some of them only made it to the holding pot. It's just too dang hot here right now. I am up early today in the hopes of getting them in the ground before the heat.

Snowpeak always does a great job with their irises and they offer great prices too.

ROFL!!!! You have a fantastic memory...that was ME! I think I still have a couple scratches on my legs from going in and pulling the boxes out of the shrubs! ;-) I'm not quite as bad hiding it anymore but I still feel like I am getting the raised eyebrows when the boxes hit the front porch! And he doesn't golf so much anymore so I can't use that...lol.

I'm feeling so much better now that I have read some of your lists. :-) Maybe I should print this topic off and show to hubby when he is about to blow a fuse.

As for me, the majority of my purchases were medians this year. Still have a couple orders to put in. In fact I think I will go do that. Want to get a few more TBs that I saw at convention, Robin of Loxley, T-Rex, Bridal Icing...all goooood stuff.
