Hosta of the day Dream Queen
Comments (9)They must all be hard to grow unless you live in the Pacific Northwest. I currently have 2 Great Expectations, one in the ground and one in a pot. Neither are showing off. I have a Dream Queen that had it's 3rd year last year and I took 2 picture of it with its 4 or 5 leaves. I also bought a Dream Weaver locally and kept it in a pot. The most success I've had with Great Expectations is several years ago with one in a pot. The first picture is of that plant at it's best. I could move the pot around and give it what it wanted. Unfortunately that winter it went to Hosta Heaven. The second picture below is not mine. It's in my sisters garden outside Seattle. Maybe that's where Hosta Heaven is because her plants (most of them) grow like weeds. This Dream Weaver is on the east side of her house which it obviously loves. It is as blue in September as it is in this picture....See MoreI know it's not Dream Queen, but is it HVX?
Comments (33)So, I received a response from Hampshire Farms: "First, I would like to apologize for shipping a variety with the incorrect name/label. We ship a great many plants, and attempt to be absolutely perfect in identifying our plants, but unfortunately, as in this case, we do goof. We feel strongly that this plant is âÂÂFirst FrostâÂÂ, which was the 2010 Hosta of the Year. Thanks very much for your interest, and I apologize again for the effort we caused you in attempting to identify your purchase." I don't believe it's First Frost, granted my clump is a few years old but they still don't look very similar aside from they both have green centers and variegated edging. So in the meantime, I like the "tc anomaly" possibility. It certainly makes the most sense....See MoreAnyone wanna do Leaf shots? Hosta 'Dream Queen'
Comments (82)Wonderful photos, still going strong. However, when I think of "doing shots", cannot help it, I think of tequila, salt and a twist of lime. Oooh boy, that makes my taste buds jump. With a bacon salad on the side. Jo, I love your Fingerprint. I ordered Tattoo from PDN to be delivered this year. Hostatakeover, that Alliteration is a new one for me. I would be afraid it had HVX. Is that how it is supposed to look?...See MoreDream Weaver or Dream Queen?
Comments (4)I have both and grown under similar conditions, it would be difficult to determine any difference. Both are ex 'Great Expectations', ex sieboldiana 'Elegans'. A third look-alike, 'Thunderbolt', is also a sport of sieboldiana 'Elegans'. but appears to be more robust than the two "Dreamers", with thicker leaves and petioles. Possibly a tetraploid, some speculate. If you are considering a purchase, buy whichever one is available and least expensive. Label it with the name of choice. No one would ever know!...See Morebkay2000
