Comments (33)I really like them. Hopefully in the future I will be able to put in a bigger pond and I can try again with the Golden Orfes and do it right by getting about 5 or 6. For now I am going to pass on them as I see the advice the guy in the pond store told me that one was good, was wrong. Meantime I rewarded myself by going back to the pond store and buying two new fish. I got a stunner of a butterfly koi in a strange metalic almost mustard old gold color. I know that might not sound attractive but the fish is lovely. Also a most beautiful deep almost red "goldfish" with the most long, long, long tail and fins....See MorePoison Food Crops
Comments (19)GGG, Frankly, I think people who make statements like yours sound like maybe they are a little afraid of what a reasonable approach might turn up. Touchy-feely, the-world-is-out-to-get-me is fine, but it doesn't do much to persuade reasonable people of any danger. You can feel like Monsanto, or whoever, is doing you (or the world) wrong until you turn green, but that does nothing to change the situation. Questioning is good, making accusations without backup or worrying about something you (and I'm not referring to Vroomp, here, BTW) don't even really understand is not. ______________________________________ Vroomp, If you're really concerned about some aspect of the topic, make a clear concise argument for your point. Many many people feel GMO food and related herbicides, that are currently approved for use, are completely safe. Some think the whole food system is on the verge of collapse. Still others are somewhere in between and might even be looking for answers. Obviously, many people have reviewed the available information and made conclusions different than yours, or things wouldn't be as they are now. So, it's not as simple as just looking the information up on a search engine. It's kind of like if you went to a crowded theater and saw an electrical problem that could result in a short. You could stand up and shout "FIRE!!!" Some people might run for the door, but most would just look around, see nothing, and think you were a nut or just kidding around. A more sensible way to address such a situation is to calmly bring your case up with some type of convincing argument that a danger truly existed. Staying quite and ignoring the short wouldn't make it go away, but yelling "FIRE!" doesn't solve the problem either. Finally, I don't mean to be so preachy about how you should make your point. But I figured I better explain my point a little more after GGG decided to attack....See MoreFish Heads under Fall Crops Exper.
Comments (26)I have to share this little tale. One year my Kidnergardeners did a science experiemnt using seeds and fish. We planted bean seeds using different kinds of fish in the pots to see which seed grew the best. We had four pots. One had a dead gold fish, one had a fish cracker, one had a gummy fish and the last had nothing but the seed. The gummy fish pot came up faster and grew larger. The children came to the conclusion that we should put sugar in the ground with our seeds. It was a total surprise to me but the kids loved it....See Morere:RE: Fish Heads under Corn Crop
Comments (6)Hi there, it's me, the originator of that fishhead thread. As I understand it the corn seed was placed into the mouth of the fish as it was buried. I didn't do it this way myself as you can read in the previous thread. I'm sure fish waste is a good source of nitrogen as the method compared well with the other two separate rows using manure and 10-10-10. If I had planted a 4th row using no added fertilizer (as a control row) it would have been even more interesting to see the results. It makes good sence that the decaying fish adds vital nutrients for such a heavy feeder as corn. The Native Americans no doubt tried many methods during their thousands of years isolated in the Americas but must have come to the conclusion that it's best to use this "waste" for a good purpose rather than simply discarding it. vgkg...See Morevgkg Z-7 Va
