A couple of questions first...did you have any creeping bentgrass in the yard 2 years ago? Did you purchase a custom blend seed mixture from a garden center, online, or contractor supply store? When you say Blue velvet..I am assuming that you mean Kentucky Bluegrass variety "velvet". THe only reason why I ask is there is a velvet bentgrass that is used in golf course putting greens. Off the top of my head, there are a couple of things that could have happened. 1. The seed mixture you bought was not blue tag certified. That means it was not weed free. Creeping bentgrass is a weed only by the fact that you don't want it. 2. Certain box type seed mixtures will prodominately display the 3 variety blend you mentioned but again there is probably additional seed listed or a % listed as weed seed. 3. It is possible that animals/birds could have possibly transferred live seed and deposited but...that is the least likely in this situation. So, getting rid of the creeping bent. Getting rid of cool season grasses within a stand of cool season grasses is tricky if not impossible by chemical means. The fastest way would be to use roundup on a sponge brush and dab the plant surface. Effectively killing the just the creeper. Waiting for the Kentucky to overtake is not going to yield the results you want...it will most likely spread. Get it now while you have the chance. Your cultural practices are sound for KB so that is not the cause of infestation. Hope that helps.

Lilyfinch -- if you want short daisies, I highly recommend 'Broadway Lights'. Mine have been blooming for several months and are still sprouting new blooms. I do stay after them by deadheading, but it's an enjoyable task since I love them so much. They begin as a pale yellow and turn soft white. The foliage is evergreen here. They are splendid with blue, pink or purple companions. As for height -- around 15-18". Annie... The agastache foliage is about 18" high and about 24" when in bloom, so I don't keep it short. I use it at the front of my large deer resistant garden. Only 'Summer Sky' is shorter than this one. I don't count 'Purple Pygmy' because it doesn't last long enough to get mature. My 'Blue Fortune' is 4 feet tall. For apricot to soft orange agastache, I like 'Coronado' and 'Navajo Sunset'. They both look great with blue or purple (or orange for a monochromatic theme). This is good information. Thanks George! You make it sound very simple... I have permission to take cuttings from a nieighbors 5 ft tall "Oregon Blue Cypress" (Chamaecyparis lawsoniana) and wonder if the procedure shown above is the same for cypress as it is for junipers? Anything I need to do differently? I've never taken cuttings before or tried to grow plants in this manner. I have no greenhouse for the cuttings so my only winter options are leaving them outside all winter (zone 5 w/ cold winters), or store them in an unheated garage, or bring them inside the house. Thanks.

I have a bunch in my front island. I think it is great, but you will have to be diligent in keeping it in check. I've found it to grow over emerging plants/flowers and crowd them out. You can come take some from my yard for free if you'd like. (Mine came from my parent's place)
