Irises are really starting to bloom now

I have several in bloom now, thought I would share a few pictures

One I bought from the dreaded WMart. Supposed to be Cherub's Smile, obviously not. I think it looks like Gypsy Romance, I'll be able to tell when the real Gypsy Romance blooms, which looks like will be in a day or 2. At least it is a pretty iris, & actually the first time I've gotten the wrong iris from that place-although I don't think I've ever gotten very many there. Guess it had to happen.

I moved Designing Woman last year, & that is not blooming. I believe this is Designing Woman that got left behind.

Evening Tidgings in shadow-really looks different. In person, it looks kinda between the color of these 2 pics

Rio Rojo

Magical Encounter-such a pretty color. I love this iris, but it seems so very tall. This stalk is leaning against the shop, but the other stalk is flopped over on the ground.

I think of that every time I see that iris too, Ken :) It was a favorite of my kids. I read & read & read....

PV, those deep purple petunias are beautiful - worth waiting for. I believe you have had the same kind of weather we have had up here in Ottawa. My petunias have just started blooming but are 'mini' sized, my snapdragons are small like yours but no blooms yet, my maltese cross blooms are also 'mini's', and all my salvias are still very small with no blooms. What a strange year!

I don,t know about siberian iris because this will be my first year with any( I got them last fall) but with other iris each rhizome makes a bloom so thats how they are divided you seperate the rhizome and give each room to multiply. The large rhizome in the center probly won,t bloom again so when the clump becomes crowded that one is usually removed to make more room for the rhysomes it produced.

Thank you. I.m hapy that you like my flowers iris_gal, the pale blue mixed with Beverly Sills is Crystalyn. The clematis is indeed Josephine. The other one with faded blooms is Rooran. Venosa Violacea is not far from them. Will bloom soon. ginnier, I have a diagram of the yard and know where every flower is planted. Don.t trust my memory. A bit of reference work is required. Look up the average number of days to germinate and add in the average number of days from germination to bloom. You also need to consider if the seed requires a cold period before germination (that can be faked by using refrig/freezer), which often adds another month or two to the time needed for germination. Many marigolds take 5 to 10 days to germinate (we'll use "10") and another 45 days to bloom. That totals 55 days or about 2 months if all goes well. If you have 2 months until frost, you can plant now and enjoy at least a few blooms; using row cover to protect the new plants [from frost] should give you more time to enjoy - actually, in your zone 9, there should be more than a couple months available for blooming.

Magical Encounter is nice and tall here also. Many times I have to stake it so that it doesn't flop over. Nice blooms you have there.

I'm excited to see your Rio Rojo- I got it last year after seeing Rita's. Evening Tidings is a very pretty iris too. Thanks for sharing them all.

Your 'Gypsy Romance' is actually Sultry Mood, one of my favourites. It is one of the very few here that I have never seen rotting.

Magical Encounter is such a pretty iris, it is worth staking. I was wondering if maybe I had planted it in the wrong place, although I knew it was getting enough sun. I have a couple of iris that are close to a shrub, they are both tall & floppy. I'm gonna move those & see if it cures the problem. If not, the white one will be leaving my garden, I have too many well behaved white iris to bother with it. I have a beautiful iris Fireside Glow that not only flops consistently, but the stalks curve around making it odd looking even when I stake it. I love the color, but I have another that will bloom this year I think will replace this one.
Ann, I really like that color too. I planted in in rather an odd place by my front sidewalk next to some Osprey tradescantia. They really match well in color, but this is much too tall for the area. I always seem to be moving stuff :)
Renee, Rio Rojo is so very lovely, the form of wonderful. I didn't get a good photo of Evening Tidings, but it is gorgeous too. Of course, you have figured me out by now. I love "almost" all my iris :)
Thanks for catching that wieslaw59. I have a friend who has a few iris, I think she got Sultry Mood last year. I hope my memory is right, will be an easy ID then. Gypsy Romance has a bloom stalk, but not ready to bloom, so I think you are right, not GR.
