Moving and need some iris advice

Hi everyone.

It's been a long time since my last visit. This winter has found us very busy...

We will be moving in June of this year. We'll be moving to zone 5 at apx 2000 feet elevation. The main difference between where we are now vs where we'll be moving to is the snow pack. We now have mabe a foot in the winter where we'll be getting 4 feet or more where we're moving to. It's in the mountains with lots of timber.

OK, so obviously I'll want some kind of raised bed. But my questions are:

Should I keep the snow shoveled down to only a foot on top of the iris so there won't be as much to melt off (keeping them in water)?

How tall would make the raised bed? I was actually thinking of some kind of hill. Mabe 4 ft high by 20-40 feet long and apx 8-10 feet wide.

Also, the soil is different than I'm used to. Here is about 70% sand and where we're moving is mostly clay.

What and how much sand and compost would you mix in?

One more... The last time we were up there, I noticed mole hills. We don't have them right here, so how is the best way to deal with them and will they still burrow up into the hill?

Thanks you guys....

I hope you all have had a great fall/winter.
