Problem with my Leaf Blower
Comments (8)I agree watts way to low rated cord, amps or watts is what you need to know. How much does the elect. blower pull. probably 1200 to 1600 watts atleast. here a simple formula If i remember it correctly 1. amps X volts = watts. 2. Watts divided by volts = amps. 3. watts divided by amps = volts. The blower should have one of these numbers on it. amps or watts. I agree with ibpod at least a 14 gauge. the smaller the gauge the heavier elect. load it will carry. Glade you found the problem the extension cord was probably too light duty to carry the amps, therefore it overheated melted the wire insulation off and shorted out when the two wires touched (this very same thing happens in old houses with old wiring techiques when a single wall outlet has several adapter cord pluged in, it only takes one on the line to pull too much amps and over heat the wiring in the walls an catch a house on fire (todays fault and trip cicuit breakers prevent this unless they malfunction. Or it had a break in the insulation and the movement of the cord alowed it to ground out (bare wires touching) heat up very quickly and short out. Every wonder why you hair dryer quits and pops the circuit breaker. hair dryers probably pull as much or more watts than that blower that's why the have a short cord....See MoreStihl Leaf Blower question on product and promo.
Comments (3)"That scared me off." Welcome to the world of "mystery fuel" we live in. Whatever you end up with, plan on adding stabilizer, run the engine dry after each use, and generally take a lot of precautions we wouldn't have thought of a few years ago. A very wise man in another forum had this to say about small engine fuel. "Plan your small engine work for a weekend, buy fuel on the way home Friday night. After doing all your work on the weekend, drain all tanks and run engines dry. The gas removed should be added to your car immediately." This will eliminate all the horror stories about "mystery fuel" issues in small engine carbs." Words to that effect anyway. I'm also getting on in years and looked into a back pack blower. Liked the idea, didn't like the price and had just gone through some issues with 2 cycle engines and warranties due to carb issues. Ended up buying a hand held REMANUFACTURED unit from Amazon for $79.95 including shipping, same warranty as new. Two years later it's still running strong? My logic was that at the price I'll replace it every couple of years and save money. Believe me, buying a "throwaway" engine was something I previously would never have considered. Have always paid more and got quality and it lasted, now..... Good luck, Ev...See MoreHigh speed problem with two Echo leaf blowers
Comments (61)i've been using ethanol gas for a long time. for my 2 strokes, i don't mix more fuel than i can use within a reasonable time, don't let it sit. when i had a little lawn service business, i could mix a gal at a time without it going bad. since i've cut back on customers i can get by mixing only what i'll use. when i'm mixing small amounts i mix 8oz gas to 1 tsp oil. i buy and sell a lot of "broken" lawn equipment, more often than not the problem is fuel related. gummed up carbs, deteriorated lines. usually because the owner stored the machine with fuel in it. the gas you bye in cans (premix) is fail safe but expensive. if you like to store fuel, google "pure fuel" or ethanol free fuel in my area, there might be stations still selling real gas. there are people that swear by fuel stabilizers but i don't use them....See MoreCleaning gutters from ground with shop vac or blower
Comments (6)We live in Canada and our house has Maple trees and our neighbour has walnut tree and an oak tree.. collectively they drop piles of leaves so for the rain gutters l now do the following.. Having both knees repaired and replaced, ladders are out for me so l made my own contraption to clean the leaves from the ground . We have a 6.5 horse power shop vac.. I made an extention out of ABS pipe along with making a hook at the the end ( to look like a candy cane) that connects to the original flex hose that comes with the shop vac. I start the shop vac and roll it along on the ground or walkway in front of the house or on the 44 foot deck on the back side of the house holding one end of the ABS pipe extension and having the hook part in the rain gutter... it cleans the rain gutters out nicely and all the mess is in the shop vac ready to empty in my choice of disposal container... Works well and a cheap tool to make...\...See MoreArcher55
