Noid help, please

I posted this one last year but I will try again this year. Any thoughts on the id?

I had a Hakumuo in 2010/11 and I lost it, in other words, I am not sure if it died, I simply couldn't find it in the garden. I couldn't remember where I planted it. Below is the leaf of that particular hosta - this noid is too different, is it not?

Lay the entire leaf upon your potting mix in bright shade of filtered sun, and it will generally sprout a new plantlet at the leaf base, it might take several weeks before you see any results. I suspect it might even be easier to get it to start new plants once it warms up in the spring, and do it outdoors in bright shade. Once the plant gets larger it will also branch freely and most often will even sprout new plants from the flowering stalk. In a year's time one mother plant can become dozens here in California, and the rosettes can easily get 18 inches across with cool yet balmy coastal California weather. You can also plant this directly in a more soil or fir bark based soil mix, it isn't necessary to use straight sand. They also grow faster with regular feeding, but watch out for aphids on new growth and particularly on the bloom stalks, about the only pest besides slugs and snails in the cooler months.

How strange. The NOID is probably Sky Dancer, although it is too dark to compare my Sky Dancer to the NOID for another couple of hours. But, Babka, the one outstanding characteristic of my Lederhosen is the dark green patent leather SHINE of it all. It comes on, this shine does, after any wax has melted of course. The bloom of Lederhosen is in the purple/lavender range. The NOID, also has a light lavender color flower. It comes to a shiny leaf after Lederhosen does. That is the one difference in the description of Sky Dancer that stops me from saying without reservation that this plant is indeed Sky Dancer. This year, NOID is at least approaching maturity. I believe that is why its differences are more pronounced, and I it almost screams at me I'M NOT A LEDERHOSEN! The same thing is happening on the other side of the garden too. The NOID which we'd decided was Satisfaction is looking much different than the one I acquired as a comparison. It is looking more like the description of Spartacus.....but my tiny new Spartacus provides no clues yet. Oh well, that is another story for another day. Thanks for the input. The plot thickens.

Really, I think I need to go to bed and get some rest. Why? Because I feel in an alternate universe here. Without benefit of any good drugs either!!! This is what I read: I rummaged around in the garage to find the bags and it is: Scott's Nature Scape classic black. Ok. This is what I HEARD: (as a response to "keep an eye on that pedicure) She was finding the name of the nail polish which these days CAN be "classic black" because I've seen it, but last MONTHS? well, stretching it a bit......but if you garden a lot black nail polish might not be such a bad idea, I was giving that a thought. But why rummage around in the garage for the bag...... .....and that's when I scrolled up up and reread the whole thread, to decide it was "classic black" mulch......... you understand that a good laugh is a terrible thing to waste. Next time I take a picture, folks, look for the pedicure............I'm dying here.....good night all.....

Does it typically not flower until late summer or is that just this year's information? Looks like a small/medium sieboldiana type Gold, but that would mean earlier flowering than this. Steve

There's an active post right now about Allegan Fog...with pics. Something to consider?

I don't think the Hakumuo leaf looks like your NOID....the Hakumuo leaf doesn't show any of the cute "freckles".

Vanessa and Mary, that is what I thought, too but I have never purchased Allegan Fog nor Ghost Spirit.

Ken, there is a lens cap present in both pictures of the noid.

Paula, your third pic (the second NOID) - I've never seen such before but like it! Is it possible to post entire plant with something for scale as well?

LOVE the stunning first NOID - if you ever divide it, I would love a piece! A trade perhaps? ;-)

The first two photos are of the same noid. The third pic is of a leaf off of the Hakumuo that I had in 2010. I don't have that plant anymore.

Paula,

I looked through the Misted Leaves and Speckled Leaves at the Hosta Library from Don's lists and couldn't find any of them that looked like yours, unless it's Allegan Fog and/or Ghost Spirit.

Maybe you'll recognize the name on one of the lists.

I looked through the list and there are a few that I have, but they are all accounted for. Due to the overwhelming response that points to the same hosta, I think this one will be Allegan Fog from now on...it has been christened!
