I think I have 13 different types of hydrangea in my garden- zone 5- and it's really only Annabelle and my Oakleaf that ever put on much of a show. I'm not sure I can list everyone I've got but they certainly include Endless Summer, Pia, Preziosa, Forever and Ever, grayswood, bluebird, bluewave, and alpenglow. All of these were supposed to be ok for zone 5 but they really haven't been for me. I don't cut the old wood but I haven't covered them in the winter either. I guess I could start trying to smash them down and bury them this fall. But I'd love to hear other's experience.
