Anyone ever order from Dragonfly Aquatics??
Comments (15)That's too bad that you had trouble with them. I've been thinking about ordering from them myself. I've pretty much stopped ordering plants online unless its from Lilypons or Ewaterlily or a couple of other forum members that I know have wonderful plants. This year I've bought plants at one of two local nurseries that carry water plants. This year they cut back on the size of their marginal plants and they are potted in the 4 inch pots for $5.99 each. You can't beat that! They are nice plants for that price so I've bought a bunch of them from them this year. There was a thread on another forum recently where some folks were complaining about the size of plants they had received for their $$ from an online source. Many plant growers sell what they consider a "marketable size" plant for mail order which can tend to be pretty small. I've ordered from Aquatic Plant Depot and you get really small plants but everything I've ordered from them took off growing. I hope you can get a refund for your dead plants....See Morehow to get rid of! dragon fly larvae
Comments (6)Dragonfly Larvae will eat smaller fish. Goldfish and Koi are susceptible when young, but get their revenge as adults. I've seen goldfish devour larvae during my spring cleanings. I think Larry is correct about your guppies. Kind of a no win scenario. Add some goldfish and you would no longer see much larvae, but the goldfish would eat the guppies. Dragonflies do eat mosquitoes. They also eat pollinating insects such as bees. Nature requires a balance. The YouTube video below demonstrates what what can happen to small fish. Comments (3)There must be ponds nearby, Beth. I get a lot of dragonflies, and my neighbors have several of them. They come in such a beautiful variety of colors! One year a huge one showed up, as big as a bird. I was never able to identify it. Several years ago, beautiful orchid pink ones started showing up in late summer and fall. Maybe you'll get some of these roseate skimmers - Sherry...See MoreDragonflies? [photo]
Comments (5)Dragonflies spend more time living in fresh water as nymphs than they do flying around as adults. So you need to live near water habitat to see dragonflies in your yard. They feed on mosquitoes and other small insects, so if you maintain a lawn & garden free of toxic chemicals, you should end up with a healthy population of insects, and this will attract dragonflies. Damselflies seem to like tall grasses for perching-we have them in our yard every day, all summer long. I only see dragonflies now and then....See Moremofak
