Hydrangeas in high desert country?

I live in SW Idaho(Nampa-Caldwell area) We have very hot dry summers, not to cold of winters.

I bought 4 Early Sensation hydrangeas at Lowe's yesterday-they were marked down to $1.00 each! They don't look great but I figure they just need some love. =-)

I was thinking of planting them on the East side of my house, where they would get morning sun and lots of afternoon shade.

Is there any chance they will grow? Or do I just put them in containers.

I've had an Endless Summer hydrangea in a container on my shaded(though warm) front porch. It grows beautifully but doesn't get very big and only produces one flower.

Thanks for all your help.
