Go, little blue weedling, go!

Once upon a time (May 2012), I found two little weedlings growing under a newly divided Erromena in the outer boundaries of my garden bed. I was surprised that they were a little rounder and bluer than what I assumed was the mother plant, since most of the weedlings in my garden are plain old greenies.

I think it's time to give it its own place in the garden!

Nice plants! I am jealous... I have never had a hosta seedling in my garden and I have had hosta planted for years.

Any pics of a creamy cab w/ a blue/grey/neutral color? Here are a few but I am not positive on the paint colors used. Blue Island- should I go for it

We're thinking a mid-toned greyish blue would be best in the space. The KD is coming tomorrow with the samples and it literally needs to be picked out and ordered then or we will hold up the whole project, so the pressure is on. She is also going to have a cow when I tell her we're getting a farmhouse sink after all. I am nervous, but excited- blue just feels right to me once we thought of it. I've never posted a pic- but the link below is our inspiration photo. island: We're doing the Alpine White for the perimeter. I was planning on doing the Antique but it looked too yellow against my existing trim (which I have in the whole house). I loved both, you just have to see it in your room. I like the Edgemont door a lot- it's got the simplicity of shaker but the little bevel detail really makes it pop. If I can figure out how to post the layout I will. lavender_lass...I just posted a pic of our "faux" skylight and we have white cabinets with a black countertop and light wood furniture (posted recently) I definitely want to choose a more aqua-tone color. Your so right about some blue being "cold" for certain combinations. I love this site and I'm so excited to have feedback from everyone that's commented! I should mention that I collect wall tins (photo posted) (Coca Cola, Hersheys, Coffee theme, Moon Pies, etc) which has made it a little more challenging, since they are all a little different BUT I'm determined to make it all work because I LOVE COLOR especially in the kitchen!

By any chance, do you have any photos of your space? That might help a little bit. Have you looked at gray blues like Mt Saint Anne? For trim, I would consider glacial till or jute.

Aw, thanks! I inherited a whole bunch of green Erromena with the house. Boring as they are, they are what convinced me that I could keep plants without killing them. So far I've only had the plain greenies, one Albomarginata, and this "little" blue one. Hoping one day to find a streaked one.

That is so exciting to me. Just the other day I was cleaning up an area by the foundation planted with daylilies, Lilium and Hibiscus and almost pulled out a seedling I didn't know existed. It must have been there for a couple of years since it has 5 leafs. The thing that amazes me is the closest hosta is over 40 feet away and there have been none planted in the bed for over 5 years that I remember.

Little surprises like that make my juices flow. I know Ken says "who needs another plain green hosta" and see his point, but I think it stirs up my maternal instincts. While I am still short of being an octogenarian I am glad SOMETHING does. LOL I plan to nurture her.

ken, if that's the case, then I'm very lucky, indeed. Bottom right is Komodo Dragon--second season in my garden this year. I put the plain old greenies around him so that I wouldn't have to look at bare ground while waiting for him to get big. Figured I wouldn't be too sad having to dig up some green hosta to give him room in a few years.

I grew a few by seeds couple years ago. a lot sprouted but didnt make it through the winter :(

Ken-I have been led to believe all Lancifolia are sterile. Yet I have an isolated drift of Lancifolia that is surrounded by a dozen or so what appear to be seedlings in their second spring. They do not appear to be from stolons.

I have other Lancifolia close together with no seedlings and I have never seen pods on any of my Lancifolia.

What is going on here?
