How long should it take for my roses to grow again?
Comments (8)aggierose, I have a number of roses that rest for about 3 to 3.5 weeks after their first big bloom of the year. Yes, they just sit there doing nothing sometimes--drives me nuts! Then they take off again. So patience is probably the best advice for now. You do know that many roses don't really hit full stride until their third year, don't you? You may be surprised next year how much better they perform. The only other consideration I can think of is how much sun do they get--6 or more hours a day? If they are in part shade, they will often be much slower to re-bloom and may not have as many blooms as those that get more sun. Oh, I might also mention that while RoseTone is a terrific fertilizer, it is slow-acting. I think most organics probably are. Just imagine those roots getting bigger and stronger while nothing seems to be happening up on top. Maybe that will help you survive the next week or two--maybe? Kate...See MoreHow long does it take for the blooms to fully open of F&E
Comments (0)I have my first hydrangea - Forever and ever, it is quite small, but has several flower buds. The first bloom started opening about two weeks ago, they start green and turn pink as they get a little larger (each little flower.) Only two are completely pink. How long does it take for each of those little flowers to fully open. I'm not sure if I'm phrasing this correctly....See MoreHow long to Irises take to bloom?
Comments (1)Beardeds grow from rhizomes which produce babies, which in turn produce new fans that will become blooming size. There is lots of information here in old posts. Sunset Garden Book is also a good source. Buds appear and will open depending upon daytime temps. in your area. When I see color on the buds mine will open within a week - we're usually in the 70's at this time. 10 miles away they are 10 degrees cooler at night but 10 degrees warmer during the day --- they have bloom before we do. Since they are circling trees they are competing for nutrients. To keep them at their best fertilize with a low nitrogen fertilizer. After spring bloom is a good time. During summer the mother rhiz becomes depleted of energy by producing offspring and her leaves will become unsightly. Some people cut them down 1/2 way --- purely a cosmetic thing. I only remove outer leaves as they wither. I've gone on too long. Keep reading and post a picture of your first blooms!...See MoreWhy are my Iris' taking so long to bloom?
Comments (3)I'm in NY too. Mine are really slow to bloom this year. First we had the warm (hot) weather that hurried them along, and now the cool weather is slowing them down. I'm up on a hill, that stays cooler, so my neighbors have some blooming and I don't of the same established variety. I suspect it's just the cold keeping yours back. Also newly divided ones do tend to take longer to bloom. But when the neighbors iris are gone, yours won't be!...See Moregardengal48 (PNW Z8/9)
