Any experience with blushing bride hydrangea
Comments (4)Thanks. Yes, I'm sure they will die down to the ground. We have annabelle's that do that and they almost always come back. I did lose some, but I think it's 'cause we had a dry fall and I forgot to water them in. I'd like to put them where they get afternoon sun. I've heard morning sun is best, but I'd really like them to brighten up a back corner....See MoreNon-blooming hydrangeas
Comments (2)See if you can find at a plant nursery a soil kit that checks for low or high levels of NPK (nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium). Use it to determine if the levels of nitrogen are high. BB is a good rebloomer that, if affected by cold, should still bloom... albeit late in the year (usually around July). If it fails to bloom then I would consider one of three possibilities: high levels of nitrogen in the soil are keeping it in growth mode, (2) soil moisture issues during the winter month (while the plant is dormant) or (3) the plants were mislabeled and these varieties only bloom once... and if the winter is too cold, the stems die & grow back from the crown. I am hoping it is getting too much Nitrogen. A single application in Spring of 1/2 cup to 1 cup of cottonseed meal, compost or composted manure should be fine for the whole year. Comments (6)Since it is putting on new growth, I would leave it be for now and let it recover. Make sure to water daily since it is in a pot. I have a large mophead in a pot and I give it 1/2 gallon of water every day. Because it is in a container, it will need more watering than it would in the ground. The newly planted hydrangeas I have in the ground get watered every 3-5 days. I agree with Ian about the sun scorch---and wanted to add that a water stressed plant is more suceptable to insects (I learned it first hand when my limelights (who I neglected on vacation) got spider mites. I treated them, and they are doing what yours are doing... recovering, putting on new growth, but the old leaves look awful....See MoreBlushing Bride Hydrangea Pic
Comments (5)Very nice picture. I like the contrast. I thought this guy would get big so I nixed it for one location here. Is your shorter growing season keeping hydrangeas size in check (or do you prune)? How long do your BB blooms last?...See MoreAnn_in_Houston
