Please help me save hydrangea from Grandpa's wake

Hi. I would have never purchased a hydrangea in bloom in February, but I just brought one home from my dear FIL's wake that was in an basket of flowers from a florist. I desperately want to keep it alive. I was hoping to keep it alive until the Spring and plant it, but I was reading in another post that that might not work. I suppose the plant looks healthy, but definitely leggy, if that's a word that even applies to hydrangeas. Some of the stems are green, and some are covered in brown. I should tell you that I am not a hydrangea person-as if you couldn't tell! One came with our house 8 years ago, and it has not had so much as a single bloom. Any advice that you could offer will be VERY appreciated.

Lynn
