Moon vine; fragrant plants?

How does moon vine do in planting zone 9a? or 9b -- who knows exactly which zone I'm in. What kind of sun and soil moisture does it need? Does its companion plant, morning glory, do well in this region?

I'm looking for plants that smell really good. Still mainly planting in part shade to part sun this year and some sun. Fragrance plants so far: tea olive, fragrant sococca (sorta something like that when not totally misspelled); plan to get nightblooming jasmine. Was surprised to learn that double bloom knock out roses have no fragrance. Am a beginner and for time being avoiding fussy plants.
